Kanpai London Sake Brewery & Taproom
Simply brilliant place in Peckham. Fab staff, superb sake, great vibes. Decor and music is always on point, nice outside area and just overall wonderful experience. Hoping the move to London Bridge goes well and gives us an even better Kanpai!

Tranquil ambience. A wonderful day fabulous food excellent value for money. As a nurse over the past few years I have not spent too much quality time together with my family. We spent the day relaxing listening to the gentle live jazz music. The food was freshly made and so tasty.Thank you for opening the Abbey for the public and most of all keeping it affordable

Have been here twice now. Both times it is to attend other people's birthday celebrations. The lunch time visit was lacklustre as hardly anyone was there and so it lacked atmosphere. The set menu was £18. The starters turn up so quickly you wonder how long the food has been sitting there. The chef then cooks the other carefully measured portions in front of you. Entertainment is watching people try to toss an egg into a chef hat.We visited again last week in the evening. It was fully booked and so there was more atmosphere. However it is so expensive. Again the starters arrived so quickly. Trying to get the chicken off the wooden skewers is hard and because the skewers are burnt, you end up eating half of them. The scallop shell has slivers of fish in it with a mayonnaise type sauce. There are 3 king prawns each. Small amount of chicken teriyaki and steak and a bowl of rice and bean sprouts. This wouldn't be too bad if you had the evening to sit and enjoy it but it is all done and dusted in 1 hour. They hover around to get you out and to be honest you might as well leave as there's nothing else doing. The entertainment is exactly the same and it's all a bit corny. It's very hard to be negative when someone else loves it but I think it's appalling to pay £35 to virtually have food shoved down your throat. It's either that or eat it stone cold with them asking every 2 minutes if you're finished. It was also very cold sitting by the door on the first table on the right.Give it a miss!

Kanpai London Sake Brewery & Taproom
As a sake newbie I had no idea what to expect, but the place is brand new and looks so cool it makes you want to go in whether you know what you’re doing or not! Thankfully the bar staff were super knowledgeable and welcoming and clearly passionate about their sake that is all being made onsite. Safe to say I’m a convert and will definitely be going back. Didn’t get a chance to eat but food looked amazing too. Makes a nice change from beer and a great way to start or end a tour of the Mile. London Brewed Sake - who knew??

We have just had one of our most enjoyable days out in years. It was the spring blossom day followed by Japanese meal. So when we arrived we were shown into the Japanese garden which was beautiful and included trees in blossom , a beautiful Japanese pond with bridge and stepping stones, a beautifully carved and decorated shrine , a tea house, a kitchen garden etc. we were served sake then the best sushi and Japanese canapé I have had. Such complex tastes. Then we went to the tea house for a traditional tea ceremony with matcha green tea and Japanese sweets which was very beautifully done and a real experience. Then into the restaurant for the best Japanese meal I have had in 40 years. Each table had its own cooking pot and we stirred in unusualJapanese vegetables , tofu and Wagyu beef into the superb tasty stock - it’s called sukiyaki and it was amazing. Finally mango and bean paste sorbet plus chocolate cake and cream. Absolutely the best. We then went back to the garden and sat in the sun. We had thought it was a little bit expensive beforehand but when we left after almost 5 hours we decided it was some of the best money we have ever spent. Oh and the people ( an extended Japanese family and a few employees) were lovely and friendly. We cannot Wait to sign up for another special day.
