YoKOYA- New Authentic Omakase Sushi Kaiseki in London
A very unique experience of enjoying Japanesse cuisine. The chef used to do izakaya and just recently changed his concept to kaiseki. As like a normal kaiseki once you had your dessert you can enjoy their authentic Japanesse tea ceremony. All of the food are good. Good selection of sake, you can choose a set of sake to compliment the dishes. Bear in mind it takes time, last time it took 4 hours from start to finish, and you can stay more to enjoy more sake if you want to....

An absolute must if you're in the area (or not! ) love seafood, east asian food and a truly passionate chef. Unlike anywhere we've eaten before, and all the better for it.The wine pairing was spot on and we licked our plates clean - and that's ok...For us, the very reason we will return to Penzance in the not too distant future.Thank you Bruce & Vicki for an amazing evening.. we are still talking about it....

Really decent! The omakase menu provides excellent presentations and good flavour in general. Service was top notch too!The wagyu and the black cod (supposedly the main dishes) were a slight let down tho! I feel like I can get better quality and size from japan centre easily.

Umu Restaurant
Really disappointed from the lunch we just had at Umu. The pricing is super high, and the value isn't there. We took 2 lunch menus, one with noodles and the other the sushi chef selection, both at 65 pound each. The noodles were just cold noodles with 0 flavour, we choose tiger prawns and got 2 pieces and a bit of vegetables. The sushi selection was alright, I had better sushi at much lower price. The desert was fine but nothing else.Even the service was disappointing, it took long to get the food (the did mention a 20 minutes for the sushi, but it was about 40 minutes until we got our food), and it took 4 times of asking to get the bill. Will not return here nor reccomend it to any of my friends.

Umu Restaurant
Went for lunch as couldn’t afford dinner so this is the lunch menu review at this fabulous Michelin-star restaurant.FOODSo we got two bento boxes and a sushi platter of 10 assorted sushis for the three of us and it was plenty of food. Each bento box comes with a salad, a miso soup and a dessert in addition to the box which justifies its price of £45 for the vegetarian box, £65 for the regular box. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what was what but everything tasted super fresh and delicious; which is what you are paying for. They had some very special miso soups id never tried before also. The sushis were super tasty, each bite a different fish and frankly all tasted great. We received some extra desserts on the house at the end and I must say their desserts are outstanding. The Japanese tiramisu with sake is crazy, I thought I was eating a plant!Overall very glad to have tried this place. Not sure ill come back often as its still insanely expensive but if you can afford its fantastic.STAFF/SERVICEI felt it was a bit slow for a Michelin-star restaurant and none of the waiters explained to us what our dishes were which would have been useful. One of the waitresses didn’t speak great English which made it harder for us to communicate. We were not offered more water. Small things you would simply expect from such a high end restaurant which commands such high prices, even if it’s only a cheaper lunch menu.

Umu Restaurant
Umu is one of the best Japanese restaurant in London. The quality of the fish is unmatched anywhere in the city. We opted to not do the tasting menu and order off the menu and everything was amazing. The service here could be improved. I found the service to be a bit brusque.

Umu Restaurant
The food was okay and not worth the money in my opinion (I am from Japan btw). You can certainly find better Japanese food for more reasonable price in London or Tokyo. The service was also very mediocre.... They made a mistake on my dessert, but they weren't so apologetic. I felt like they wanted me to take the wrong dessert... In the end I was coughing like crazy for a while for some reason, but nobody offered me water until one of the sushi chefs noticed much later.Overall very disappointing. I don't think I will go again, unfortunately.

It’s really a wonderful lunch experience. First, the foods are soo nice and authentic Japanese sushi. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. The chef is a Japanese who is so dedicated in sushi. Second, the ambience is so cozy. It really feels like those Japanese small restaurants where people chill after work. Not too tidy but clean enough. Excellent surprise for me on the birthday cake. Really highly recommend this restaurant.Online ordering for food and reservation only

Umu Restaurant
The staff are really lovely, and the food, especially the nigiri were really great.I have to say however that the place does seem a bit aged and and the food itself perhaps has lost its competitive edge perhaps since it was introduced and I’m sure at the time was more special.I have eaten all over the world and do so regularly and I’d say theres a lot a of other Japanese restaurants without Michelin stars and less expensive that are superior to Umu in service, unique product offering and refined flavours.I was a little disappointed if I’m honest. The cocktails were certainly nothing to write home about either. The best items we had were the nigiri and the deer.Service was ok but not excellent for a restaurant of that calibre.
