A great walk in the forest on gravelly paths so sensible walking shoes are advised. You can visit the house but we didn't bother as we were enjoying our walk. There are toilets, picnic tables and a place to buy drinks. The car parking was good (free to NT members) and there's a minibus at certain times down to the house.

This is a beutifal place to go on a walk. Their cafe is also very nice with indoor and outdoor seating. The cafe is only open on Fridays, Saterdays, Sundays and bank holidays. They also have a minibus service on these days to allow disabled people to access the house and cafe easier.

the grounds are fantastic, the mansion is very interesting. if you like to see a stately home and are interested in the engineering of how they are built this is great, and full of information and other stories. if the weather is great take a picknick, the walk down is long, but there is a bus that goes up and down on busier days.

A compelling never finished" late Victorian masterpiece in the making. Lovely 10km walk around the lakes. Would have rivalled Stourhead if it was ever finished. Check out the folly models in the stone masons yard."

Fab day. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful walk down to a very unique house. The girls enjoyed the pumpkin hunt and the cellar being turned into a 'crypt' was great fun

Great cheap day out. Kids enjoyed the play trail especially the zip wire. Cafe reasonably priced but was cash only. Car park £3 all day

If you are a wheelchair user you will pay the same as everyone else but will only be able to enter the ground floor of the house. There are no free tickets for personal assistants. The pathway to the house is rough and uneven with quite big pieces of loose stone - so you'll need an off road wheelchair or scooter to get to the house. There is a minibus but it isn't wheelchair accessible. There also isn't room for the minibus to pass a wheelchair on the path so be prepared for some precarious off roading! There is an accessible toilet but a large bin and thoughtless placement of a heater means only the smallest of wheelchairs can turn around. The barriers inside the house marking the one way route aren't always thoughtfully placed so be prepared to push things out of the way!

Impressive & still mostly roofed, but internally mainly the ground floor that's accessible, but in variable states of decay/restoration.There is a guided tour for some upper areas.Beware that the main car park is a rough sloped dirt track 1 mile away from the house & the minibus shuttle only goes once per hour. So you will likely need to walk at least one way04/07/23 Edited to remove reference to hard hats, based on trust's reply feedback

Had a lovely time yesterday looking around with my daughter and granddaughter. The staff were very welcoming, from the man driving the minibus, the receptionists and Sue in the cellar. We really enjoyed our very interesting look around. Many thanks to all who made us so welcome.

Beautiful location, but the unfinished mansion is not worth it. Nice for walks in the green, but nothing more than that. Muddy roads and beautiful forest.
