Dr Steven Shaw, Manchester Cardiologist

In February of this year I had to have a medical, it was found I had a heart defect. I did a lot of searching to find a really good Cardiologist.Dr. Steven Shaw came up as one of the top 2 so I made an appointment to see him. I found Dr. Shaw a very caring and professional, explained everything in simple English. He quickly found a suitable surgeon to operate on me and with in a couple days I was back at home feeling great. I am now getting on with life, I can't thanks him enough for all his care.

We were referred to Dr Shaw when my husband’s long time Cardiologist ran out of ideas and I wish we had found him many years ago. Steve is honest and straightforward and we believe genuinely cares about ensuring he finds the most appropriate treatment. My husband and I will always be indebted to him as we firmly believe his immense knowledge has ensured that, against all odds, we are still together as a family. We have great faith in his ability as a top class Cardiologist and the North West is extremely lucky to have him.

After my GP sent me to A&E to rule out that I wasn't having a heart attack, which fortunately I wasn't, I was however more alarmed after seeing my ECG report whilst there. Still feeling no better several weeks later and having stopped my BP medication myself, I made an appointment to see Dr Shaw and am so glad I did!What a lovely, kind, approachable, knowledgable man he is. In just one visit he did a couple of ECG's then explained them to me in such a way that was easily understood and voila- totally re assured! We then spoke in depth about my high blood pressure and the very high readings since my decision to stop and not take any more medication as they make me feel so ill. Again he gave me different options that had not been put to me before and in such a clever caring way, I am going to try them out! Thank you Dr Shaw. Hopefully I won't need his services for anything more serious but if I did, or if anybody I knew needed an outstanding cardiolologist, then I would send them straight to him.

Having been told there was basically nothing wrong with my heart, during Covid I was still experiencing breathlessness so I decided to see Dr Shaw. I found him to be very approachable and knowledgeable and after a number of tests he diagnosed my heart problems and as a result prescribed various medications. As a result I have a new lease of life and I rarely suffer breathlessness. I have full confidence in his ability as I find him to be an excellent cardiologist. I would highly recommend him.

I came across Dr Shaw on line. I have had issues now and from years ago after a stroke in 1999 .The NHS have let me down along with many others over so many years. .I was very nervous which must have been recognised during my consultation ,but I must say how professional Steve was in explaining the options .Did not rush even though the consultation was 45 mins instead of 30mins.Even though I felt it was a trip down memory lane to explain my journey .I shook hands and finally felt at last my fears were recognised and I was being listened to...I had a few tears outside and a day following but felt. assured he would get to the bottom of my problems .Thank you so much Steve .You are a credit to the field of cardiology .and would recommend him very highly to others. What a helpful, knowledgeable and thorough Dr.Steven was recommended to me by a colleague and I would happily recommend Steven to anybody who needs a cardiologist.Fully explained my condition and medication requirements in a manner that was easy to understand which helps tremendously.

Although medically qualified, I haven’t practised medicine for many years......a combination where a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous. It’s in that situation where a patient needs to feel completely confident that the Doctor looking after them is an expert in their field and is going to offer them the latest and best treatment available. An added bonus occurs if this can be delivered in an informative, calm but honest manner. Steve Shaw has ticked all the boxes for me. I ended up as a patient due to the unexpected result of a heart screening scan, some bad news I’d rather not have had, but I feel I’m in very good hands. If you need the services of a Cardiologist but don’t know who to see, I think Steve Shaw would be a good, safe, choice.

My experience with Dr Shaw is the result of a serious heart failure condition. I remember that when I first saw him, some friends had looked up his background. The information they shared with me was that he is regarded as one of the top 2 consultants with respect to heart failure in the UK, and therefore also one of the best in the world. He is the guy you get sent to when nobody else can help you. That is exactly what has happened to me. I have found Steve to be incredibly professional. He told me in a sympathetic, but also clear fashion, what I was facing. He has given me a clear action plan, including state of the art medications, to reverse the situation and to prolong my life. I have followed this path religiously, and the result is that my outlook is far better that it was, and I haven't felt so good in years. No matter what happens in the future I know I am being helped by one of the best cardiologists in the world. I feel so lucky to have Dr Shaw in my corner fighting for me! I hope this does not come across as exaggeration, because everything I have said I truly believe, and this is a story that I know other patients of Steve, will also tell you.
