Thetford Power Station

Thetford Power Station is an amazing facility that has always captured my attention. Tucked away behind trees & bordering the main road, railway, & River Ouse, the building stands out only because of its very tall chimney. Used poultry bedding is burnt in the on-site furnace, generating power for the National Grid, with a combustion ash end by-product, of a high content potash & phostrogen fertilizer. A vent at the rear of the plant pumps out steam from a dryer, causing the facility to look & sound alike a giant mechanical dragon. When the stored hen litter is being shifted from the on-site store to the incinerator, a very pungent smell emanates in the vicinity. I just love everything about this quiet but ever so efficient power station, & never tire of hearing, seeing, & especially smelling the site in action...

Fantastic power station, certainly up there with some of the greats. Would definitely revisit.
