Great day out in the Pentlands with Andrew on the Beginners’ Navigation Course. Andrew is a very good teacher and I learned a lot. Would definitely recommend!

Beginner Navigation Course on 29 October 2023. Andrew is a great teacher, and I came away with new navigation skills and compass use. Have enrolled on further courses.

Completed the Beginners and Bad weather navigation course with AP Mountaineering. Both are great courses, for all level of walkers, whether you are new to the hills or have some hill walking experience. Andrews’ knowledge and outdoor experience makes the days interesting and enjoyable. The courses also include important safety tips and ensures that you are not relying on phone apps and GPS systems for your walking. As a result, I now feel a lot more confident venturing out, thank you.

A group of 6 of us took part in the Beginners Navigation Course in The Pentlands. Despite it being a very wet and windy day, Andrew kept the group in high spirits throughout. He's friendly and approachable and, when he learnt I was interested in becoming a mountain leader, he gave me so much information on what was involved.Our group were very much beginners in navigation. Andrew covered the very basics of map reading, and made sure to challenge any new skills we learned effectively before moving on to the next section. If anyone had any questions, he was always there to help.I learnt so much from the beginners navigation course, and if you are a beginner or need a bit of extra help finding your way around the hills, I definitely recommend it!Thanks Andrew!

121 Navigation - half dayI booked this Navigation half day to refresh and gain confidence and more knowledge to be able to head out on solo hill walks.Andrew explained things really well and put together a walk covering everything that I had told him that I felt I needed more practice in.Strongly recommend to anyone wanting to learn or improve navigation skills.Great day .Thanks Andrew

Last Saturday I completed the Beginner Navigation (Pentland Hills) course with Andrew from AP Mountaineering. I had a fabulous day and learned so much (first time navigating with map and compass). Andrew was a very amiable and competent host who kept our group in good shape throughout. The weather was outstanding too. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend Andrew's course and am looking forward to applying my new found skills on a regular basis. Outstanding value.

Recently participated in a basic navigation course with Andrew. Really clear and patient and the structure was very good. His enthusiasm was infectious and I will be looking to follow up on the learnings and return to next level with him soon.

Two friends and I signed up to do the 'Poor Weather Navigation' course with Andrew in November. We had all used compasses and maps during our teenage years but wanted to refresh ourselves so that we could go out into the hills with confidence.The course was absolutely perfect for this. Andrew was incredibly knowledgable and engaging and, in some pretty horrendous weather, made sure that we enjoyed the day.I would highly recommend it.
