I’m so very impressed with the complete in-depth, attention to detail, design service that you get by working with Sam. He has inspired us to come up with an absolute transformational garden design which has far exceeded all expectations. The best part is all the help, advice and support he provides when choosing decking, tiles, gazebo, swim spa, options, making all that part so much quicker & easierSam is also extremely flexible, adaptive and been super patient with us when we’ve been struggling to make the odd design decision. We honestly consider ourselves extremely lucky to have picked Sam to do our garden design and can’t wait for the finished result in readiness for summer 2021... totally excited and it’s been a brilliant service from beginning to end.

I had a very sloped garden with no structure at all. Old patio tiles and lots of overgrown bushes. Past owners had obviously not prioritised the garden and none of the space was being used to its full potential. I wanted to have some designated seating and cooking areas and full replanting with interesting plants that would provide more colour. I met with Sam with zero knowledge of how to go about achieving this. He was very personable and understood immediately what I wanted. We talking through options and budget and went from there. I didn’t end up meeting with anyone else because I felt he already understood my brief. He was very personable and answered any questions I had, however ridiculous. He sourced excellent landscapers who were efficient and particular - they found problems with drainage they advised was imperative we changed to avoid problems down the line and sorted this promptly. Sam updated me regularly with messages and video calls because I live abroad. His knowledge of plants and planting schemes was invaluable. I’m hoping over the years to come as the garden matures his expterise will become ever clearer. What plants go best with what, where they should be planted to thrive and how to look after them. I couldn’t have done that myself however much I researched. Would definitely recommend.

This review is past due, but I feel compelled to share my experience with this company. We engaged Consilium Hortus at its infancy to carry out the landscaping for a small garden based on the design Sam put together while at a previous employer. Sam came across as an affable person and responsive to client needs. On the premise of this interaction and quality of the scheme provided, I didn’t consider the possibility of the workmanship being anything but below standard. Unfortunately that was a mistaken assumption. The tiling on walls and floors was shoddy - literally two pieces were not aligned so the tile had to be filed down - the lawn not levelled (with soil from the garden being taken away for other purposes), and, worse, Sam categorically refused to install a channel drainage on the patio (despite me showing an architect’s drawings) and reassuring us there would not be any problems. Well, literally the day after the slabs were put down, there was a deluge and he and his team had to frantically scoop water from the patio which had flooded. Convinced now that an egress was required, a small drain hole was retroactively fitted which is functional, but aesthetically displeasing. Two years in, we feel the need to have the garden redone as it’s just not fit for purpose and devalued the property. The people who are coming in to provide quotes are in utter shock and disbelief at seeing the poor work undertaken. It may well be that Consilium Hortus has now built a team of qualified builders, but I would certainly recommend looking beyond the fancy 3D schemes, undertaking due diligence or asking to visit properties to see evidence of recent work.

Consilium Hortus have provided us with an amazing design to turn a disused, mundane space into an area of tranquility and wonder. We now cannot wait to get started on the next phase of this project. Sam's attention to detail is fantastic and he was able to provide some excellent contemporary designs incorporating everything we wanted from our garden.Thanks guys. I spoke with Sam at Consilium during a search of local landscape architects as I struggled to find someone who listened to what I had to say. He didn’t make us feel as though he was too busy to hear us out, it was refreshing. Sam was so professional, enthusiastic and totally keen to support my needs. He understood what we were looking for and certainly delivered! We love our design and feel that he’s definitely understood the client. Such a great job, we would definitely recommend these guys.

We used the services of Sam for a large garden project (design, project management, build). We were impressed with Sam's attention to detail, design flair, project management skills including coordinating multiple suppliers. The communication skills of Sam are excellent, not only while the design and build were taking place, but also post project completion. We will always feel that Sam is available for any questions or queries we have, even 1 year after project completion, when many of his competitors would have moved on to the next job.
