A great historic pub near to the river and Shields Ferry. An interesting building inside and out (which almost inevitably has featured in an episode of Vera), and a surprisingly wide beer range, all of great quality. Friendly service and a good mix of locals and visitors who were all made welcome.

So good I bought the T-Shirt... well actually a hoodie! Staff are great fun and contribute to a great atmosphere. Inside of the pub is quirky, Good choice of beers and ales. Haven't eaten here, but we will be going back.

The Steamboat is a treasure of a pub, steered beautifully by Kathleen, the landlady. Get yourself down there a.s.a.p.! It’s a beautifully preserved traditional pub, perched on the corner of Mill Dam and only a few minutes’ walk from South Shields ferry. They have lots of great cask, draft and bottled beers, ales and cider and specialise in rum, with over 120 to choose from! It’s no surprise that this pub has won UK and international best pub awards. I recently hired exclusive use of the gorgeous backroom for a small party and Kathleen and her team were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They allowed outside catering, decorations, pre-ordering of drinks, and our own music. Many thanks to Kathleen and her staff for making the party such a wonderful experience. Everyone loved it and we will all be back again, and again…

First time to soith shields and found this pub. Loved this place full of history and character. Little oldy worldie pub. Will definitely be coming back

Out on bikes with son and stopped off at Steam Boat. The couple who run bar were super friendly & accommodating, ensuring our bikes were brought in via back door. Atmosphere always good in this pub regardless of day or time.

The last of the great pubs in South Shields. A national treasure that should be preserved. It also happens to be one of the nicest pubs in shields in the nicest location. Boasting a huge selection of rum!

Friendly pub. Which has won numerous awards. 9 h/ pulls 120 rums so much to see and take in .staff/ service / and beer excellent. Will go back.
