OYO Dene Hotel

I stayed one night while on a cycling trip. The hotel was everything I needed at the end of a long day....warm, clean and quiet. The bed was comfortable and I had a really good night's sleep. The continental breakfast was good and offered all I needed to prepare for another day cycling. The assistant who served me at breakfast was efficient and polite. The hotel is located in Jesmond , a very nice area of Newcastle with lots of bars, eating places and shops nearby. The Turkish restaurant which is part of the hotel looked good but I did not need to eat. Parking is quite limited at the rear of the hotel and parking on surrounding streets is limited to permit holders only, but this did not cause me a problem. Would stay at the Dene Hotel again.

Brilliant hotel just perfect for our needs, we arrived early in the morning, parked the car and let them know we had arrived and wouldn't be back until late. The night porter would check us in then. The room was modern and bright with a modern bathroom and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was continental buffet which was good. The location of the hotel is great with bars and restaurants close by and only a 5 minute trip in a taxi to the centre. We will definitely stay again.

To say we had an interesting experience at this hotel would be an understatement. We arrived to a gentleman sat outside awaiting our arrival who told us the hotel has just been purchased by a new management company and we had to get in touch with them to verify our booking. This procedure was quite frankly ridiculous - it would be easier to get into Buckingham Palace. Once we eventually verified our identity and were let into our room, the staff member (Grandad) told us he would be staying up all night awaiting our return and that he sleeps in the lobby until all guests come back from their night out - not sure about how this passe staff welfare checks. Not only this, but Stanley from the management company was constantly messaging us throughout our stay. The room was bang average.

Good location with 7 free parking spaces available on a first-come first-served basis.Very poor room (#23) with cheap, uncomfortable bedding, woeful TV and internet and no soap/shampoo provided meaning you have to buy your own just to wash your hands.The front entrance and room door are coded entry and there is no reception to speak of, just a night porter at weekends.

I only stayed at the Hotel for one night during Bank Holiday, but it truly was a great experience! The staff were incredibly helpful, accessible and caring. I even had the opportunity to make new friends amongst some of the hotel's clients - and also made great memories! I'll definitely book a room there as soon as I'll be able to return to Newcastle!
