Very old fashioned auctioneers and administratively very disorganised. Confusingly they auction at two different places. No bank transfers, they send cheques in the post still. I would not recommend them.

Charming old fashioned auctioneers, they don't make profit on their P&P like others do and post the goods out super fastI have spoken to Mr Laing a few times on the telephone, lovely man.I bid and win here quite a lot as an antique ring dealer and never had issues or arguments.

Beware, I used this company to auction the contents of my deceased mothers estate and found them to be very unprofessional. No paperwork was completed by them when items were collected, luckily I had lists and photographs to prove the items had been taken by the auction house. Some items of furniture were so incorrectly described and dated in the auction information that this negatively affected the prices achieved.I had to call and email continuously for several months to find out if items had sold and getting paid for sold items took months of chasing up and eventually threats of legal action. Items were lost and possibly sold that have not been accounted or paid for and items were often sold below agreed reserve prices without prior consultation. I have now given up trying to get this company to account for all the items they collected as it is now over a year since my dealings with them and I am still waiting on a reply to my last few emails. Having to deal with this appalling company has been incredibly stressful and something I hope I never have to go through again.

'Buyer Beware' could have been written about here. A LOT of base metal and plate is sold (I'd say knowingly) as silver and sometimes gold. It has a bad reputation locally. If you buy from here: test, test and test. And make sure you insist on getting your money back if something is sold with the wrong description. There are much more reliable auctioneers out there.

I have just had the pleasure of dealing with this auctioneer for a second time and can't recommend them highly enough. Pre-sale they answered all of my questions promptly and efficiently. I also needed, as is often the case, a quote for P&P which, when received, was very reasonable. As with most things when it comes to P&P there are good and bad or more accurately, outstanding and abysmal providers. Considering P&P is such an integral part of the selling process but one so often neglected by all too many salerooms it must surely pay to give it the attention it demands. It certainly encourages more buyers to bid with confidence knowing they won’t be ‘fleeced’ after the sale with ridiculous charges for postage.I happened in this instance to buy a very small framed and glazed drawing, the sort of object that causes many auctions panic immediately they see the word ‘glazed’ and then insist you arrange ‘A man with a van’ to collect. When my drawing arrived it had been thoughtfully and professionally packed and was well protected for delivery. I hope potential vendors read my revue and take note. As a frequent buyer from auctions I regularly need P&P and how that is arranged and charged by the auction makes a significant difference to my attitude towards bidding in the sale. I would recommend any potential vendors to take note of my comments because as a result of the ancillary services they offer to support buyers post-sale they will achieve the best prices for objects sold via their saleroom......Long may you prosper ‘Whitton & Laing’.

Fantasic, and they don't charge a fortune for postage like other auction houses. You can bid on-line the auctioneer is hilarious, think reach for sky" voice (very upper english) mixed with only fools and horses humour...Love it! Will 100 percent use again
