Cosy rock bar with good vibes and great atmosphere. Sometimes features live bands. Always worth a visit on a night out.

The Pit and Pendulum
A delightfully grungy little rock pub, which is pleasingly alt-community driven. Very small and perfect for intimate local rock gigs and booze-soaked singalongs. Less convenient for those who could use a sit down when catching a live show. Offers a seriously good time, though.

Great alt-bar. Have been to many a rock gig at Pit & Pendulum. Would recommend for a local grungy vibe.

What a great little alternative place! Myself and a friend went here to kill half an hour and we are so glad we did! Felt safe and the music was great!

The Pit and Pendulum
Plymouth's Pit and Pendulum is a horror of a pub. Unfriendliest pub you'll likely ever experience. Ultra cliquey. Is effectively a chapter house for the pub's in-crowd. Other customers are made to feel acutely unwelcome, are treated shockingly rudely and even with hostility. Bar staff constantly clown around and drink. Male bar staff are disturbingly - seriously disturbingly - lecherous to female customers. Doesn't matter if you've been there before, or are 'alternative'; 'outsiders' will get this treatment - as witnessed repeatedly. Ironic behaviour, given the pub's 'alternative' projection and the 'alternative' scene's professed inclusivity and equality. Other reviewers observe the same shaming things; there are also glowing reviews; the very polarisation speaks to two groups: 1) the pub's in-crowd, 2) the unwanted 'outsiders'. You may like the pub's music and its bits of strewn pound-shop Halloween tat; this won't make-up for the horrible experience you'll almost certainly have. Go somewhere else. Other Plymouth pubs have like music. Nowhere else is likely to treat you as badly, regardless of who or what you are.

Great rock bar to visit, with actual rock tunes :) serves good food through the day and the selection of drinks is comprehensive. They have Hop House on tap so I'm happy! Usually filled with lots of good people wearing black.

Great bar, drinks are pricey depending on what you get but honestly worth it. The locals are great and super friendly. Felt safe and happy here unlike some other bars in Plymouth
