Wasted 60 mile round trip. Checked the website before we left and when we got there we found out they are only open weekends but failed to mention this on their website. Couldn't get in touch through the number on the website or a private number also on the website. Very disappointed as the purpose of the trip was to hire a few bikes.

After visiting wood n wheels today to hire bikes for myself, husband and son we were very disappointed ! We had looked on web site for prices and decided to hire bikes for 2 hours at 15.00 each ! When we got there we were told the price was 25.00 each and we had to have half day hire ( we only wanted 2 hours) to avoid disappointment on for my son we filled in the forms and then told we had to pay £ 100.00 deposit for each bike ( absolute joke ) !! I asked for just one bike for my son to which we were laughed at and told that wasnt a good idea !! I was furious we walked out my son was so upset!! the customer service was disgraceful. !! Old man behind counter told us different info from whats stated on web site !!

Website said it was open at weekends as now winter opening. Arrived to find it shut on a Sunday. Suggest they provide accurate info on their website.

Really friendly and helpful in getting my bike set up for the day. Would highly recommend.

Thanks for helping us out at short notice today so my son can enjoy his bike for the rest of our holiday. We called in to ask for advice about my son's bike as the front brakes were damaged after a lovely bike ride through the forest. We were told they could be replaced and to come back in half an hour. Enjoyed nice cuppa in the tearooms and returned to find the bike all sorted. Great service, really helpful and prompt at a reasonable price.

Visited Hamsterley forest yesterday with a large family group when some chose to walk and some to cycle. Everyone loved the forest and would give it a high rating. The service from the bike shop however was a completely different experience! The man in the shop had a very ' couldn't care less' attitude. The bikes were just allocated to each person with no checking that they suited or were functioning properly. My husband who is a pensioner was given an old bike which was not fit for purpose and which totally destroyed the day for him. He is used to cycling at our local mountain biking centre so he knew what the bike should have been like. Recommend some training for staff and updating of equipment in order to make this a pleasant experience for all.

We arrived at Hamsterley at 9.20 after being told the hire shop opens at 10am. After an hour and a half wait with absolutely no sign of anyone opening up we had to call it a day and return back to Newcastle. A truly disappointing and irritating morning. Surly being a busy Sunday with plenty of profit to be made, you would think the owner would have enough sense to either ring forward or leave a note on the door apologising for their absence. A pity because Hamsterley is a great place to bike, (if you had a hire bike to do it on). A sorry state of affairs.

Sadly a poor service from a rude man at this bike shop. The bikes were not set up for each individual and not fit for purpose.Gladly the rest of our time at the forest was not ruined.

We had a lovely time yesterday using your bike trails, walks and parking facilities. Your bike shop let the whole experience down. The man was rude and hired a sub standard bike to my poor dad. The bike wasn't fit for purpose with faulty gears, handlebars as narrow as it gets, wheels the size of a child's bike and he didn't make any adjustments for us. We each had to adjust seat height and just go with the set tyre pressures. That's just dangerous. To top it off he argued about the gears suitability on our return. How he could charge money for that bike is an embarrassment to the fc. You should renegotiate that contract.

£100 deposit to hire a bike, not told till returning bike that they take 5 days to refund as will only take through card payment. So in affect i paid £125 to hire a bike for 3 hours, absolute joke. 7 working days later my money is returned though not much good when its your travel money to work. 2 days work lost and no appology when explaining this to the owner. Shame as the forest is amazing
