Rise and Summit

I booked Kevin for a 3-day private Scottish winter mountaineering course, and I couldn’t have picked a more knowledgeable and professional guide. We learnt at our own pace and tailored the course to our liking. I loved every second of it and I now feel I now have the skills and confidence to take away from this experience to go out the winter mountains on my own in a safe manner.Kevin is not only a great guide but he also takes amazing pictures!!

We had a great trad climbing course with Eddy organised by Rise & Summit - two days of intense learning and a lot of fun. The course was well organized and Eddy adopted to our experience and expectations - we learned so much in two days AND climbed two multipitch routes as well :)

Had an amazing two days attending the Trad course and undertook my first multi pitch Trad climb.Kevin is such an amazing instructor who teaches in a really good way. You learn so much and he has such an encouraging approach you leave each day delighted with both what you have achieved and learnt.I would highly recommend Rise and Summit and will certainly be using the company again in the future. The cliff camping experience with Kevin was amazing. Everything from the set up to the food was excellent. The location in Portland was superb with excellent sunrise views.Kevin was a very personable bloke, made us feel really at ease, fully explained everything we needed to know to enjoy the portaledging experience and was super interesting to talk to. We really enjoyed swapping outdoorsy stories!

Sept 2023 two day trad course with Rise and Summit.Booking was really easy. Early communications to understand my current abilities and what I wanted to achieve/experience. I was then linked up with my instructor for the weekend. We had a phone chat to better understand my level of climbing, core skills and the type of climbing and skills I wanted to focus on. We agreed that a mix of trad and sport climbing would give me a great base of new skills and confidence. Based on weather and travel times we opted for the Wye Valley, due to the great mix of sport and trad options. Day 1 focused on building my skills and techniques for sport climbing, anchors and cleaning routes. Then several routes applying the new skills in the afternoon. Day two was a morning of rope skills, practicing protection selection, placement and assessment of quality. Then a multi pitch afternoon of trad. Lunch on a ledge overlooking the river. Topping out and buzzing from two cracking days of bespoke and personal tuition and guiding. Being in the hands of a very experienced mountain leader made for a great experience. Need to add, not only did I learn tonnes about climbing, but we also appreciated and talked about the local flora and fauna, climbing whilst respecting these beautiful places and even clearing rubbish left by less considerate visitors at the viewpoint. To summarise; totally satisfied, highly recommend and extremely thankful for a perfect weekend.

Absolutely top instructor. Communication before, during and after the course was excellent. Friendly, patient and relaxed style, and really good at pitching the challenge at the right level for the individual. I did the multipitch trad climbing course with Kevin at Avon Gorge and it was a really inspiring experience. I found myself just soaking up knowledge and skills during the two days, and the whole thing has bolstered my confidence and left me excited for more. Highly recommended.

Attended a performance course with Kevin and had 2 days of very thoughtful and encouraging coaching that really gave me the push (and a few additional tricks") I needed to start tackling some harder trad routes (HVS/E1).What's clear is that Kevin is himself a very capable and committed climber with a huge amount of knowledge and experience - this shone through during the course.I couldn't really be happier with how the two days went."

My partner and I did the cliff camping experience with Rise and Summit and it was truly wonderful! Kevin's climing expertise and friendliness has made the day even more special. The food was really nice and a gluten intolerance was catered for. Overall the experience was really worth it!
