Loved this class! Still very much new to Capoeira but the relaxed astomosphere made it suitable for all levels. I thoroughly enjoyed Joel's passion & enthusiasm for the art form. Will definitely be back!

I tried Capoeira with different teachers and I think Joel really has something special about his teaching style.. he is inclusive, sensitive, attentive, encouraging. He breaks down exercises so that everyone can follow them and feel like they are in the process of learning as opposed to feeling Discouraged and unable to complete the exercises.Joel gives enough attention to all the aspects of Capoeira: History and traditions, music, expression, fun, body flexibility and strength, sense of community...I highly recommend his classes to anyone who might want to try a new activity in a nice and inclusive environment, anyone who wants to grow, both physically and mentally and see how Capoeira can change somebody’s life! :)Axè para Joel e contramestre Xandão!

Joel is such a great teacher. He is very dedicated and curious about the culture behind Capoeira Angola. He plays very well the game of Capoeira and also the instruments, he is a great musicien, offering a whole capoeira experience, you'll feel like you're in Brazil! I really enjoy being in this class with Joel. He is very focused and patient person. This lessons has giving me so much motivation to be physical heathy as I don't like going to the gym. Fun way to be healthy and learn new skills.

I went to class because I'd heard capoeira was good for learning animal types of movement, but I learnt it's so much more. There is the philosophy of being in the moment and the connection you develop with the people you play with. And the music is awesome as well! Joel is a fantastic teacher, highly recommend

I have been to the beginners' Angola class at Health Town in West Hampstead twice already and let me tell you the classes were really great! Joel is an amazing teacher and makes everyone feel relaxed and welcome. I come from a background of almost two years training contemporary capoeira, which is a different branch of the Art, so Angola is completely different for me, with new moves and philosophies to learn. The class is catered to absolute beginners so the first part of the class is when Joel tells you a bit about capoeira and the musicality and you learn how to play basic rhythms on the different instruments. Then it gets to the part where you learn a few movements and Joel helps you play in partners with small sequences and, lastly, he dedicates some time to teaching handstands and cartwheels which are very useful in capoeira. I definitely recommend this class if you are an absolute beginner and would like to start working out in a fun way!

Great capoeira classes by Joel. Nice mixture of music, movement and philosophy. Other students are also very nice to train with, very welcoming environment!

Joel is good at teaching as he breaks down moves and caters to your individual level. He has patience and explains and demonstrates to simplify what he is teaching.He, himself is a strong, knowledgeable and experienced capoeirista and he has a friendly and caring nature.I would definitely recommend his classes, whatever your level, as they are fun and fulfilling.

I have been training Capoeira with Joel for about a month. He is really passionate about this martial art, so his classes are extremely enjoyable. Every class consist of a bit of music, culture, history and of course a lot of capoeira movements and mobility skills. I highly recommend this classes for everyone, especially for beginners, as Joel is super patient and adapts his technic to all levels.
