Lovely RSPB reserve, with a large comfortable hide and a lovely beach to hang out at. Rangers and volunteers super nice. Fingers crossed for some avian surprises!

A wonderful place, which makes you feel that you are in the middle of nowhere. I saw an Osprey searching for fish over the loch, also a Slavonian grebe sitting on a nest, which was conveniently located in front of the lochside hide. A member of the RSPB was present on the day. His knowledge of the area was invaluable.

This is a great little reserve, small car park leads to a little beach then along a board walk to the hide. We were lucky enough to see a Slavonian Grebe on a drizzly day.

Lovely nature reserve perfect for short walks or longer. Bird hide on South shore aswell for keen watchers. Fishing available via Inverness Angling club,no bank fishing allowed though.only by prebooked boat. More recently we have done some paddleboarding on the loch as well which was brilliant. Lovely and calm and perfect evening sunshine makes it a great pastime here. Also whilst here we saw a group of wild swimmers.

Loch Ruthven is an R.S.P.B Nature Reserve. If you take the old Fort Augustus road from the A9 you travel out a single track road until you arrive in Croachy. Loch Ruthven is signposted and you will find a small car park. There is a small contribution box where you can leave a donation.Sadly the hide is closed at the moment because of Covid restrictions. You can still walk out as far as the hide there is also a nice little area where you can enjoy the views. One last thing remember to take your binoculars and remember to wrap up as the weather can change very quickly.

Always worth a visit and my favourite RSPB reserve...pity I live 500 miles away. Car park, seats and hide , excellent views and good chance of seeing Slavonian Grebes and fishing Ospreys at the appropriate time of year.
