First visit here after lots of recommendations. The pub and restaurant are beautiful - a traditional pub married with the contemporary. However, we had Sunday roasts - sirloin. Given the Michelin star we expected something special - for £30. The meat was full of fat. The vegetables were bland. The gravy too thin to taste. The roast potatoes were nice and the Yorkshire pudding crispy. I’ve eaten Sunday lunch all over the place and this didn’t make the top 50. Dessert sounded nice but it was laced with star anise and not pleasant. By the time we added drinks we got a bill for £270 including £30 service charge. The service was okay but the waitresses did the basics - certainly not worth £30. Won’t be rushing back.

Very nice place and service, however the food did not live up to the expectation. Bread was hard and stale, starter was nice but mushrooms with seafood???? Main was very nice but really should have come with potatoes and veg. Desert was nothing special! Disappointing for the £250 dinner for two.

Michelin starred gastropub with options to stay over. Very informal fine dining (as we like it!) The rooms are lovely, spacious and our room had a good shower. Each room is individual so check what you are getting when booking. The lodge has a lounge for guests and you can have a drink (or two) before you go to dinner. Lots of food options and you can either order a tasting menu or go for a la carte. There's a very generous wine pairing.

We had an amazing Sunday lunch here. Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables. The gravy was absolutely delicious. We got a warm loaf with flavoured butter to share before the main course. We had a 'Marathon' and Eton mess for dessert, followed by tea and coffee with lovely petit fours. The whole meal was perfect.

I booked this restaurant for my birthday having found it in the Michelin Guide. We had the Tasting Menu. They catered exceptionally for my gluten/dairy free request - the tasting menu was adapted to suit my dietary needs.Staff were welcoming and the service was faultless. The decor was unique with a warm/friendly atmosphere. Beautiful location. Delicious food.Would highly recommend.

Wow, our second visit to this lovely place but our first since their fire. They've done a great job rebuilding, you really wouldn't know until you look through the book of photos showing the fire damage and the repair journey. Food was amazing, I even tried mussels for the first time. Staff are very knowledgeable about the food which is well sourced.

I live in York, recently moved from London for work. My Mother visited for the weekend and we looked for best Sunday roast near York... and found The Star Inn. The reviews and description sounded amazing. Also, wanted to tie in a walk so the surrounding area allowed a morning walk followed by a lovely dinner. The service was outstanding and friendly from the start to finish. The food and drinks were lovely. The decor and settings was lovely too. The rest of the menu looked intriguing, so would seek to come back to try more. If really pedantic the roast potatoes could have been a bit more special, and the veg was quite basic though cooked perfectly. But, maybe that is the style. But would recommend!

This Michelin starred restaurant lived up to every expectation. We lunched from the à la carte menu and enjoyed 2 different starters and mains. Each was well presented, wonderful flavours and interesting takes on combinations and flavours. Looking forward to my next visit. We did not stay so I can't comment on the accommodation.
