Lovely church this, with a rebuilt spire by Richard Phipson. If you like this one, check out the equally impressive spire at Great Finborough.

Beautiful church and Ruth the Vicar was so warm and non judgemental. My dad's body was laid to rest there. I personally prefer cremations but I think it is a very special place. I am not local, but its a lovely village to marry, christen or say goodbye to a loved one.

St Mary's church at Woolpit is generaly open for viewing/private prayers and is well worth a visit. Another example of the wealth of the wool trade in this area. Whilst records show evidence of a church here since 1005 AD the earliest today are the chancel & south aisle dating from the 14C though most of the structure is mid 15C. The tower was added in the 1850s as previous ones were damaged in early 1600s & early 1700s.The double hammerbeam roof with beautifully carved angels is outstanding but the heads were carved much later to replace those damaged in 1644. The south porch from mid 1400s has a lovely decoration. Bench ends are of great interest here too.

St. Mary's is a truly outstanding church, even by the high standards of the Suffolk wool churches. Both inside and outside, the beautifully proportioned building is incredibly detailed, with so many features to find in the ornate stonework. The stone tracery windows & acute steeple are just the most obvious examples of the master craftsmanship that went into building St. Mary's. The church is situated very close to the village centre, not far from the WOOLPIT sign depicting the green children, although the church itself didn't figure significantly in the enduring local folklore...

As my home church I have spent many years here visiting for the historic beauty and I'm never let down. The vicar is the loveliest and always happy to chat. Many events are arranged here as it has a real community spirit. If you're only visiting the village shortly as a tourist I 100% recommend paying it a visit and also suggest checking out Ladies Well down the road which is full of mysterious history so enticing to find out more!

Cannot fault this wonderful church, or Rev Ruth, she does so much for the community. The children are always excited to be part of whatever fabulous activity is taking place, whether it be Christmas services, eater egg hunts, arts and crafts. It is everything that a church should be, and so much more.

Woolpit is a Lovely, picturesque village which has many old original buildings and homes. It's people are friendly and obliging and there is a great sense of family and loyalty among them. There is a local supermarket, a restaurant, a pub, a fish & chip shop and a mobile pizza van every Monday evening.St Mary's church is beautifully kept, well attended for services and meetings and holds bell ringing sessions every week.
