Been here several times over the years, food was good and fairly priced. Nice pub, friendly staff. But the most recent visit food quality is less than average for very inflated prices. I understand costs have increased etc but the burger with extras almost £19?? Poor quality ingredients in the burger. Had better handcrafted burgers stacked with all the trimmings priced less in high end restaurants. As with other food choices all ok , but again average pub meals all around £17. Such a shame as used to like going here. Expensive night out for average pub grub.

Enjoyed the food, very good menu of fresh items. Beer good. Service could have been better. Quite abrupt when asking to use their parking when the car park weren't anywhere near full even though we spent £140 on food. And got ushered to leave the table a couple of times. Delicious food though can't fault it.

Just had a fantastic weekend break at the Black Lion, everything was just Wow!We have visited Newquay, but not stayed, so were very aware of how popular and busy it is, and the lack of parking. So to find somewhere to stay with its own car park was a pleasant surprise. There are posts on the website about the difficulties they are experiencing with staffing. We honestly did not notice at all. All the staff from Mike and Paula to the bar staff, the kitchen staff and the ladies doing housekeeping were polite, friendly and worked extremely hard to ensure we had a good stay. The room and en suite were spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable. We were lucky to have glorious weather and the view was simply stunning. The bar clearly has a well kept cellar, and the combination of this and a large beer garden with lots of tables and a welcome for children and dogs meant the pub was constantly busy. The food menu was compact compared to other places we have stayed but the quality of food, the way it was cooked and presented (including breakfast) and the huge portions overcame this. The thing that struck us most was how quiet the hotel was once you were in your room. An absolute haven and we cannot recommend it highly enough.Thank you Black Lion for a wonderful time

Yes a really nice pub with good friendly atmosphere and nice staff but our two curries were bang average at best. At the price we expected a little more than the only slightly better than spoons" fare that we were served. Perhaps the rest of the menu was better but we didn't return. Of course OMHO."

Didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms. Called in for food whilst in New Quay. Lovely pub with a good atmosphere whilst watching the rugby. Nice outdoor area for the kids to run around. 8 of us eat and everyone really enjoyed the food. Dog friendly too. Would recommend and go back when in the area.

For almost £16, you would expect the burger to at least come with some salad and sauce. Instead, it was literally a plain burger in a dry bun. The actual burger was drier than the Sahara. This was not cheap food. I have no issue paying any price for food, as long as it is at the quality you expect for the price point. I was genuinely shocked that this was how the burger was supposed to arrive, I even asked the waitress if it was correct.Very overpriced for the quality of food received.

Lovely overnight stay, evening meal was excellent, breakfast was fantastic too, rooms were spotlessly clean and such a comfy big bed, great nights sleep. Literally can’t fault it, location perfect, staff went over and above. No complaints at all, highly recommend.

We have visited twice now and loved it on both occasions. The children had fun in the play area and the parents enjoyed a cool beverage over looking the beautiful baby. Perfect.

Great location looking out over New Quay bay. The pub seems a bit tired since we first visited many years ago and there was quite a bit of litter in the garden, which was a shame. Would definitely benefit from a tidy up and refresh.Good selection of beers and solid pub food, including a good range of children's dishes.
