About the Business

Loughor Castle | Cadw | Thou shalt not cross It’s easy to see why Loughor was built here. The ruins are those of a castle that commanded what was once a low-tide fording point across the Loughor Estuary. It wasn’t just the Normans who appreciated its strategic value. One thousand years earlier the Romans constructed the fort of Leucarum on this site. A 12th-century earthworks castle, burnt by the Welsh in 1151, was replaced in the next century with a stone fortress, a single tower of which survives along with the foundations of curtain walls.

Loughor Castle
Theres nothing much here, just a ruin of a small tower left.It will take up about 3 minutes of your time to see it all.

Although not much is left of this historic place there is enough to warrant a short visit to this historic place which is close to the beautiful Loughor Estuary.Visiting is really easy as the castle is located alongside the main A4240 road in the village. You may be able to park on the road however, there is a small car park (free) close by (51.66332518930001, -4.078047165998971).It is a short walk 5 mins from here to the castle and you will also be rewarded by great views of the river and the estuary from here.

Not much Castle left, so not worth a special trip but if you're passing have a quick look. Park next to the river, then walk up Ferry Road.

Great little piece of history driving through rural Wales. Worth a quick stop off, great to let the dog run around here and learn a little about local history.

Visited Loughor Castle recently and while it's a bit hidden amidst residential houses, the site offers a fascinating glimpse into Wales' medieval and Roman past. The elevated location allows for some views over the River Loughor, though they're partially obscured by trees now. The site could benefit from better signage and an information board closer to the ruins, as the existing one is poorly located near a bus stop at the bottom of the mound. The term castle" might be a bit misleading; what you're primarily seeing are the remains of a tower. It's a quick visit but worth it if you're interested in history. The adjacent Parc Williams and nearby Loughor Estuary and Beach make for a nice extended outing. Overall

If you expect the tower of London, don't even bother visiting! however if you love ruins & have an eye for spotting details like spiral staircases, fireplaces, doors etc, it's worth a visit. You can use your imagination as to its purpose so close to the river & the importance given the mound that was built for it.

This appears to be a free Cadw site and, despite what it said on the website, it appears open (there must have been issues which meant the site was fenced off in the past). The tour of the castle does not take long as it is really a keep but it would have had quite a commanding view of the estuary in the past.To get to the keep means climbing up the grassy motte.

Lovely place to walk around. Nice park and picturesque foresaw with another children's play area and great views of the estuary. Lots of different birds through the year.

The filth castle I have been in my life. The castle is small and nice and there is a a car park near by. It isn’t preserved and doesn’t have a walk path. I hope someone look care about it and turn it in a good place because there is a potential to be a nice place to visit.
