Mere Beck Fly Fishing

In our 6 hour session I got the distinct impression that the small lake we were in (1 of 4) was fairly over-fished. At least a couple of the fish caught had very soar looking mouths. A gentleman nearby seemed to be pulling out 8+ lbers in short succession.

Fished Mere beck for the first time this morning Great place to fish. Conditions probably not on my side but sill managed to catch. It was worth the journey from Manchester and will definitely be returning. Thanks for the advice Gordon a black beetle did the trick!

Had 4 hour session today. First time visiting. Found Gordon extremely helpful and friendly. Few of the shallower ponds had weed issues and were difficult to fish due to the heat we've just had I'd assume. The other ponds were very good fishing. I like the fact you can roam about, no fixed pegs, has a feel of a wilder form of fishing rather than a big open pond. Ill definitely be going back. Oh had 2 nice rainbows in the deeper bottom ponds.

A lovely morning fishing with great instruction from Gordon! Unfortunately didn't catch anything but would love to come back and try again. A really relaxing place to spend some time outside.

I've been here many times, perfect for an angler with restless legs. I'll never get bored here. The owners are so helpful too.As well as several well stocked running lakes, they also have end tackle, nets and sweets. They'll hire a rod if you forget your own.

It's impossible to fish 4 lakes, completely overgrown with moss and bellrush.Don't waste your money, the owners are not interested in removing any weeds at all, every cast you get snagged on them all.Poor poor poor management won't be returning again. Also hardly stocked, never any fish rising or showing in anyway.

Absolute gem of a place. Plenty of lakes to choose from all relatively small. Fish are good quality and size, stocked frequently and fight hard. Rainbow, Brown, Tiger and Blue trout, catch and release or take home available. Small shop on site sells a few flies and essential items. Lovely little cabins around the place with free tea and coffee and even a fire for the worst conditions.

The surroundings were brilliant and natural looking. The big letdown though was the shear amount of weeds on the lakes. Every other cast I pulled in I ended up with half a Forrest on my fly. I saw them raking in some weeds today in all fairness but it is something they should be keeping on top of so it does not get to this stage. A slight feeling of neglect as well with a couple of the small jetties broken and unable to access. The walkway on the back lake was completely submerged and you could not walk across it. Yes it might have been raining recently but it should have been designed better and raised higher for our inclement British weather. Hard to judge on one visit but I got a slight feeling of it being understocked. Not once did I see any fish activity.
