I have used Basik, Vahlalla, Magik, Norton and Avondale LP12 power supplies and I'm quite familiar with the Lingo1 too. Bottom line, the Valhalla Minos is my new default PSU. It is more sophisticated, sounds better and is better value than any of the above. It's an absolute bargain. It manages to have the detail and clarity of the Lingo while retaining the weight and body of the transformer-based supplies. 45 is a handy addition, it's easy to fit, is Karousel compatible and can be ungraded to the Zeus spec at a later date. It's fully programmable so you can tweak it to optimize it for your particular motor and even add a sleep function! For the money it's frankly astonishing and I think it would be crazy to consider anything else below the level of the big Linn supplies. So yeah, highly recommended.

Linn Axis failed 8 days ago. Valhalla recommended by local Linn dealer. Dropped controller board off last Wed. Arrived back today (Tuesday). All working perfectly. Fantastic service!

I’ve owned three Linn LP12 turntables (consecutively) since 1978. Since the early 1980’s, a Linn Valhalla power supply has been used; more recently, an upgraded Valhalla unit supplied by a very well-regarded third-party. I’ve been perfectly satisfied and never felt the need to change the motor controller, although there has always been the irritation of having to use a mechanical adaptor to switch to 45 r.p.m. However, when the Linn Karousel platter bearing was introduced (in 2020), this was – and is – not compatible with a Valhalla board, for reasons of electrical safety. I didn’t want to spend a small fortune on buying a Linn Lingo (now in version 4); also it is not entirely internal to the plinth. So, to allow upgrading of the platter bearing, a well-designed and cost-effective solution to the ‘Valhalla incompatibility problem’ was needed. Then I heard of Valhalla Electronics, a one-man company (just owner/engineer Steve Cobham, I think) that provides the answer. The ‘Minos’ and ‘Zeus’ units are compatible with the Karousel bearing and can be obtained in internal (to the plinth) or external options. The circuit boards are very nicely made and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design. Both units offer 33 and 45 r.p.m., switchable. With the ‘Zeus’, there is the additional benefit of a speed sensor to detect the platter rotation speed and adjust it to an accuracy of 0.001Hz. An OLED display proves it! Furthermore, it is possible to adjust various parameters (frequency, phase angle and amplitude) via software, although I personally wouldn’t want to depart from the recommended default values (as supplied) for the LP12. Remarkably, the cost of the Zeus is very reasonable indeed, being approximately a quarter of the cost of a Lingo 4. I chose to buy the internal option and with a ‘Linn look-alike’ switch as supplied with the ‘Minos’, rather than with the OLED switch that comes as standard with the 'Zeus'. Steve Cobham is very approachable and helpful in responding to queries. One thing I would recommend is that the ‘Zeus’ (or ‘Minos’) is fitted by a trained dealer, although it’s not mandatory. In my case, I had a Karousel bearing fitted at the same time as the Zeus. Furthermore, the LP12 was stripped down completely and rebuilt, by one of the most highly-regarded LP12 dealers in the country. The end result was more than satisfying… I hadn’t realised just how much information I’d previously been missing. Everything seems tighter, better focussed, more detailed, better timing… even more enjoyable to listen to than it used to be. No doubt the Zeus is contributing significantly to the overall improvement – especially the timing. I’m really glad to have learned about Valhalla Electronics. Furthermore, the ‘Zeus’ and ‘Minos’ motor controllers are designed and made in the UK. Best of British, in my estimation – and excellent value too!

Hi,Just thought we'd let you know how delighted we are with the Zeus upgrade to our LP12 circa 88 that had a Valhalla (recently serviced) installed previously.Having a large collection of singles to look at but not listen to for the last 20 odd years has been a bit of a torment. Paul Hobson of Moorgate Acoustics recommended the Zeus (fitted our budget) so we promptly handed over the turntable and a few days later got the call to collect it.LP12 back in place and the first single played was an EP from THE THE. Look, its easy to espouse superlatives, especially in the world of HiFi but this clever invention makes a good product (LP12)turn into a great one. This upgrade has had the largest positive impact on sound more than any other component change in the system chain in our experience. Everything just sounds so much better. Its odd because even at first point of stylus contact with the record your attention is grabbed. The LP12 has never been so noticeably quiet. Its early days but if this is our new norm then we have an awful lot of listening pleasure to look forward to. Thanks to Paul Hobson for his Stirling work and Steve and team at Valhalla for opening our ears.Kind RegardsAnil & Sarah (12/08/2023).

Recently purchased an internal Zeus power supply for my Linn Sondek. This is a combined power supply and optical sensor to control the speed of the deck (so the closest equivalent would be a Lingo 4 - I chose the internal version but there is an external version which is a direct equivalent to the Lingo 4 but costing roughly £1000 less). Everything about the transaction was exceptional from advice from Steve Cobham (the owner) to the actual item itself. I’d never opened up my deck before but the supplied instructions were very easy to follow and everything you need (other than a screwdriver) is included. A very smart combined OLED screen and switch is included in the package and this walks you through the set up procedure stage by stage (a full setup procedure is included in the supplied information but if you just want to get up and running you can literally just plug into the mains and you’re good to go). Performance wise - my system is quieter than it has ever been. Plus I now have access to 45 RPM at the press of a button (I transitioned from a 30 year old Valhalla which had blown its capacitors). The main things I’ve noted is that the sound stage is locked between my speakers and the overall timing of my deck is much, much tighter as well as the lower background noise level so following even minor instruments is very easy (trying to avoid HiFi cliches here). I cant comment on how it compares to other power supplies but my wife and I work from home and she’s asked me to play records while we work for the first time ever so we can reexplore our collection…Hope this helps anyone considering picking up one of these power supplies.

Hi I've just had a Valhalla Zeus fitted and I can't believe the difference it has made to the timing every vinyl I put on sounds so much different the Vocals/ instruments are so much clearer I think it's all down to the speed calibration of the Zeus power supply and it's very good value compared to a well known makers equivalent power supply and so much cheaper

First class service from Steve. I had my old Valhalla circuit board repaired as it was making my motor run too slow and the motor was noisy. I thought I needed a new motor until I read about the faults with the LP12 Valhalla circuit board especially old ones like mine from the 80’s. The turn around was very quick and superior quality components fitted to the board, then tested and calibrated. The records do sound better now the platter is running at the correct speed again. Would thoroughly recommend using this professional service to anyone with a Linn LP12 turntable.
