Jack's take away

Jack's takeaway is a one man operation in the market town of Alston in the North Pennies of Cumbria. You pre order earlier in the day for collection and payment in the evening.We ordered a veggie pizza, fish and chips, large cheesy chips and a chicken curry platter. We were helping my Dad move so we know we'd be hungry... Holy moly the portion sizes were fantastic, really generous chap portion sizes and the piece of fish was big too. The cheese to chip ratio was extremely pleasing and the cheese thoroughly melted.The chicken curry platter came out in a pizza box it was THAT big... Tray of chicken curry, tray of egg fried rice, tray of noodles and the rest of the free space in the pizza box packed with chips - I've never seen anything like it.I'm veggie so I didn't try the fish or the chicken curry but by all reports they were both delicious. I did try the fish batter though and it made me resolve to try asking for scraps next time.The chip quality was also just outstanding - crispy exterior and soft fluffy interior -exactly that you want from the ideal chip. I will definitely be ordering again the next time I'm up visiting my Dad.To top it all off I had some decent conversation with Jack while he was whizzing around putting my order together and juggling half a dozen other imminent meals, my hats to the dude, he is providing an excellent service.

This is a perfect takeaway for a place like Alston. Jack does a range of dishes to suit all tastes and recently started fish and chips when the local chippy closed. Always friendly service and great food.

This is a lovely take away it's only small but you can wait in side of it's raining ,Jack was very friendly & chatted to me while I was waiting for him to put my order together ,the food was absolutely lovely I had beer battered cod & chips ,the batter was very crispy & the cod in side was lovely,the chips were very nice & big portion even though I had a small portion I would strongly recommend a visit ,there is limited parking by the take away but across the road is the co-op car park , there is a lot on the menu for a small takeaway , Chinese , pizza ,burgers & of corse fish & chips .
