Please be aware that there is a very, very steep and at times slippery (moss & water) single track road to the parking near the lake. This road will almost certainly be closed off in the winter and to attempt it would be extremely hazardous!! However! When it is dry and manageable, this reservoir is a peach. The views from the dam of sunsets radiating down the valley can spectacular. A peaceful place, again not often visited by the many. On the right of the dam wall, a path/track leads back to a neighbouring dam, Coed-Ty, which can also be linked to a circular walk of Eigiau.

Didn't actually make it, attempted to drive as it was just a short visit to Wales and didn't have a lot of time. Google maps took us up the single track road. So steep and so high up, shocked this is not blocked off for cars. My car struggled at points (manual Q2). Would not recommend the drive unless you know the area extremely well. Not a nervous driver but had to turn back around as we had no idea what the rest of the drive would entail or if the weather would change etc. Very difficult to turn so wouldn't suggest doing this either, couldn't risk being stuck further up. Beautiful views from afar. Would definitely like to hike.

Nice big reservoir to walk round. My Dad and I walked all the way round the whole lake length and it took us 3 hours.

Stunning scenery, if remote. The road to Llyn Cowlyd from Trefriw is not for the faint hearted, steep hairpin bends, and poor road surface, plus the sheep! I imagine it would be a bit of a challenge in a car (I was on a Triumph Tiger 1200 so it was much easier). The road runs out after about three miles, at a bridge and gate, and from here if you want to access the lake you will need to walk about one mile along a gravel track. If peace and quiet is your thing (aside from the RAF Valley training flights), then this is worth a visit. The views from the summit of the access road are worth the trouble.
