The Witham

An absolute gem of a venue. From the minute you walk in to the little bar/cafe area the volunteer staff are brilliant. They really look after you. This is our 4th visit to this venue and don't have any major complaints. The one downside if I dare say it, is that it gets very warm in the Sumner months. As I say, this is a minor drawback on this lovely place.Price wise in the cafe/bar are very reasonable. We had a bottle of prosecco at only £20 which is very good in our books.

A lovely venue,Been here as a performer and a punter. The staff are always helpful and friendly and it's a great place to watch a show.

Great place to go and see some of the smaller bands. I went to see Dr. Feelgood and had a good night.

We regularly have a light lunch at the Witham cafe. Good service from the team. Good coffee and nicely presented sandwiches.

Went to see the band China Crisis here and it was absolutely fantastic. Again the group was outstanding and just never fail to impress. The sound in the hall was very good. The Witham was an excellent run venue and what I find incredible is access and parking all so near without the agro of trying to find a space. The bar staff were friendly and prompt. I like to congratulate whoever is running these shows behind the scenes as they are definitely doing a fantastic job. Well done to all.

Excellent entertainment venue, lots of varying types of entertainment, especially comedy all in the Durham Dales. Has a good cafe with a vary varied menu. Well worth a visit

Visited on 2nd March to see comedian, Simon Evans (brilliant, by the way). The intimacy of the auditorium makes it an ideal venue for comedy. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. Small, reasonably well stocked bar area. The opportunity to pre-order interval drinks and have the bar open after the performance would have been nice, but this is a small venue run, I think, by volunteers who do a wonderful job and you can't everything. Will most certainly be back.

*SINCE I POSTED THIS i have emailed Witham just to ask about there acoustics as we still have hearing loss BUT SADLY no one was responsible enough to return my email ....PUBLIC safety not an issue ? * So I will ,WARNING WEAR earplugs to protect your heating ,esp if over a certain age at this venue !! ... Or contact DCC environmental health if your worried ...Purchased tickets to see the carpenters experience July 1st ..but the sounding was very poor ,the row behind us commented that they also could not hear her singing just the piano ...and our ears hurt and we got a headache so frustrating ..maybe the shape of the room ..but nearly didn't return for second half ......but mentioned we were disappointed with the sound ...we noted several ppl did not return second half on our side ..I mentioned this on the bands FB page ..as a view that was true ..but it was taken down .seems they don't want an honest review after all ! Mudt just want your money .HOWEVER do not let that put you off this place as a venue the girls are all lovely and excellent organised ,the room itself is spacious and in tune with helping with the partial sighted and disabled as my husband is ..excellent in this review ...they not only do events but art and cafe with delicious food ..plenty going on for those who are in tune with what a review means ...will be looking forward to more at the Witham ..but on this occasion most disappointed ...
