Stanage Pole
Stanage Pole is a landmark on Hallam Moors near to Stanage Edge. At 438 metres (1,437 feet) height, it marks the border between Derbyshire and South Yorkshire and can be seen for several miles around. Apparently a pole has stood on the site since at least 1550.

Old Roman Road.leading to a metal pole erected by the Romans. Has dates carved into such as 1662. A very historic place. Further down the path is Stannage Edge. Very beautiful & dramatic scenery.

A great spot to head for especially in the mornings when the sun is rising and there are not to many people around. Many ashes have spread up here so say hello to those who will remain here after you have left . It can be easily accessed from Redmires following a well defined old Roman road.

A good visual marker for where you’re coming and where you’ve been!We like to visit Stanage Edge at least once a year and nearly always stop here for a mini rest, especially if my son is with us.We usually park alongside the bottom of Redmires Reservior and walk up.

Intrepid Polar explorers discover new Pole marking the border between Derbyshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. (There is no such county as South Yorkshire)

Worth the 1/2mile detour from Stanage Edge. Footpath was a bit boggy and was difficult to follow in places. Walked down to Redmire reservoirs. On the way down saw my first Hen Harrier in the Peak district - amazing.

A nice Sunday stroll. Parked at Redmires car park, and walked roughly a mile there, and a mile back. Far reaching views, Castleton and Sheffield both easily visible. Stanage Lodge looked impressive in the autumn sunlight. Lots of choices if you wish to walk further from here. Parking is limited, so go early.

If you're up for a bit of breathtaking scenery and don't mind a cold, blustery wind then a trip out to Stanage Edge is a must.Tie up your hiking boots. Pack up some sandwiches and a flask of something hot, and wear appropriate clothing for the elements, this is a super way to spend a few hours.
