Tiverton Canal Co

I only walked a short stretch of the canal, from its western end at Tiverton, on a November day when there were few people around and the visitor centre was closed, at which time it was very tranquil and relaxing. The bungalows backing onto the canal make an attractive and intersting backdrop, which turns into countryside beyond Tidcome bridge. Judging by the dozen or so rowing boats and the horse drawn passenger barge moored on the opposite bank, I'd imagine it's far less tranquil during the summer.

What a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours, quietly being pulled along the canal by horse. The barge has a bar, with big choice of drinks, and ice cream and snacks too. Prices are kept similar to pubs rather than the extortionate ones you usually get at attractions. Duck food can be bought to feed the many ducks, swans, moorhen along the canal.The staff are friendly and will make you really feel at home. Loads of info about the canal itself, the horses and barge. Personally, I loved the silence they ask for, for a few minutes, so you can experience the near silent travel of years gone by. Loved it.

Fantastic walk! Really interesting events happen there, wildlife is varied and unusual in Devon a flattish walk!

We spent a few hours along the canal to kill some time before heading to airport. It is a lovely canal plenty of people enjoying the walk along it. We had food at the tea cafe and was impressed with the food and the service even with it being very full. There is a small play park gated for safety. The apparatus were clean and in good order and the kids loved it.

This is a wonderful place to be outdoors and with nature... a horse drawn barge.. quite rare in these days.. popular walking area, cycling and dog walking.. car park very cheap.. a great place for the family.. The tea room is only open for the summer season "... FABULOUS here.. you could walk for miles.. Enjoy."

Peaceful journey to the past. Lovely 2.5 hour trip made even more special by the 10 minute moment of silence.Phil the skipper is clearly passionate about the canal which is infectious.

Lovely canal located in Tiverton. You could spend the day walking up the canal and back again. We visited twice in October and witnessed the horse drawn canal boat both times which is lovely to see still going. We love nosing at the gardens that back onto the canal.
