Meikle Bin
Meikle Bin is a delightful hill. The name means “big hill” and when you catch a sight of it above Carron Valley, or from the nearby Campsie hills it has a distinct presence. The shortest route to the top is from the car parking across from Todholes farm. This has been upgraded and widened in recent years and there is space for around ten cars. The hill is popular, particularly at weekends and these spaces can fill up quickly. The route up the hill is well signed and is on smooth forest roads. Once you clear the tree line a footpath leads up the open hillside to the summit. This has been improved in recent years following the clear cutting of trees in this section of the forest. Previously it had the tendency to be a quagmire in all weathers but it is much drier now.The obvious path leads up to the trig point at 570 metres. Wonderful views of the urban sprawl of Glasgow lie to the south and the Forth estuary can be seen to the East. On a clear day views North open up to mountainous terrain.Just down from the summit are the remains of a Fleet Air Arm Fairey Firefly that crashed on a training flight in the early 1950’s. The engine of the aircraft can also be found towards the tree line on the Western side of the hill.Remember that the open hillside that leads to the summit can be exposed to severe weather and be adequately equipped for rapid changes in conditions

Such a great wee walk! I cannot believe how beautiful this site is and so close to the city, and the drive up was stunning as well, I had to stop many times to take everything in! I would say this is a very easy walk, anyone can do it up until the actual hill. From there, where the picnic bench is, it is nearly 20 mins to reach the summit (average fit person), quite steep. Wonderful panorama and breathtaking views await up top and will not disappoint you. Enjoy!

Lovely walk - approximately 10 km and 400 meters elevation in total from car park (Todholes) to peak and back. Route starts off on gravel path / track and changes into grass approximately 1 km from the peak. Great views from the top if the weather is favourable. Grass can be very boggy when wet so best to wear good footwear. There is the remains of an historic crashed RAF plane not far from the peak. Route is signposted from the car park. Overall, nice place for a family walk with great views.

Meikle Bin is a family friendly hill with many walks around the base if a wee hill isn't enough. As with all accessesible (to park) hills, avoid on sunny or bank holiday days!!

It's an ok half day hike, 2nd highest point in the Campsies with good views over the Carron Valley. The bulk of the route is on a very good path but with a wall of trees either side.which make it rather featureless.

Excellent walk from todholes car park although spaces here can be hard to get on busier days. I was a little disappointed on a recent walk that the logging has really took a hold and the roads are full of mud and dirt from the trucks. It's a shame to see so many trees taken down although I completely understand it's a necessity.

Great walk up with some amazing views (360) I would say the last 5% is the most difficult as you go from gravel road to a well walked peat grass.

Having parked in a lay-by on Crow Road - we beelined it through the woods straight up to the top. Round trip was 10km.Surprisingly spectacular view. We got to the top just after sunrise. We also found the engine from the plane wreckage beside the woods.
