Steve Dell ATCL

Steve has been teaching my daughter for four months and I would recommend him as a teacher. He is kind and built a good rapport quickly, and Steve is always punctual. Steve teaches online, using skype and we have found this to be highly effective and easy to manage. We have no travel/parking issues so it means the lesson doesn't impact our home life so much and the entire lesson is focused on teaching.My daughter had some prior knowledge of playing the guitar, but only the basics really which she learnt in primary school, when she had lessons for about year but had not taken any grades. Steve introduced her to the colour method, which I hadn't heard of before but which makes so much sense when explained. The colour method has helped my daughter progress much faster than traditional teaching methods and after four months she is already playing some pieces that are grade 4.Lessons with Steve are easy to manage and have helped my daughter, who is now in high school, have a creative outlet and hobby that helps her to relax and enjoy outside of school.

I have never actually been taught by Steve but he has been a fantastic mentor in my development as a guitar teacher. The colour method he introduced to me saved my teaching career. I previously used to use the normal black notation and witnessed so many students struggle for years just to read the notes and play basic pieces. I was very close to giving up teaching guitar but I got in contact with Steve and he gave me permission to use his colour system course. Ive only been teaching it for 10 months but the development of my students has been unbelievable and its absolutely brilliant to see. The course is perfectly designed for beginners to learn technique, musicality and the colour system makes it so easy to start playing tunes straight away. I am astonished Steve was the only person to my Knowledge who teaches using this method as its absolutely genius. Steve is also great guy and is extremely generous which I'm sure translates to his teaching. I cant recommend him highly enough!

I found Steve from a google search and when I spoke to him, I felt he should be a good teacher. He was very accommodating and adjusted his schedule to take an extra pupil. My son takes his lessons from the last 4 months and I see a massive improvement in his performance.The video call lessons means I do not have to travel and look for parking. I have sat for some of the lessons and I realise he is very patient and persistent in his approach.Steve has made the learning process interesting for my son and he looks forward to practice everyday and the weekly lessons.I have not seen anyone else use the colour method which is a shame as it makes learning easier. In less than 6 months, my son is practicing a grade 4 piece (Packington’s pound)I would surely recommend him for learning at all levels. He has recorded a lot of videos of the music he teaches that helps to compare when practicing outside of lessons.

My son has been taught Classical and Fingerstyle Guitar by Steve for the last 7 years, beginning as a 9 year old. He started on Steve’s colour music system which made it easy for him to read the music. Steve teaches a wide variety of music which appeals to him and has kept lessons interesting. He now enjoys South American pieces the most, although he still loves playing the covers of pop, rock, folk and movie themes that Steve has created. Less than 2 years after starting lessons He achieved Grade 2. Since then he has achieved Merit passes in Grades 5 and 6, and is now working toward Grade 8 and really enjoys his guitar playing. Throughout his guitar learning journey Steve has been an excellent teacher who has consistently engaged James in guitar and made the lessons both fun and effective.

Steve has been tutoring me for nearly 2 years now. In that time, I have gone from a complete beginner to now playing music pieces at grade 4 and 5.The colour method he employs is easily learnt and understood and allows for rapid progress towards mastering this instrument. The music that Steve provides has been carefully selected to cement music theory and practice whilst at the same time learning the piece. It is an innovative and enjoyable way of having fun with the instrument and learning at the same time.I cannot recommend Steve highly enough. He is a true master of the guitar, patient in his teaching and a font of knowledge about music. I can truly say that I would not have come this far in such a short period of time without Steve’s tutelage..

I started taking lessons with Steve just under 6 months ago and within such a short period I have progressed substantially.The 'colour theory' method he teaches with is both intuitive and easy to grasp. As someone who had no prior sight reading ability I found I could translate the sheet music onto my guitar with ease. This has allowed me to learn 16 songs in under 6 months; one of my latest being an arrangement of the song 'Take 5'! In addition to this fantastic method, Steve's teaching is a joy. Truly a wonderful person. He makes the lessons fun and laid back whilst giving concise and clear instructions. The balance between demonstration, instruction and play-time is perfect. Every lessons feels well spent. There is no doubt Steve is a great teacher and I would highly recommend him.Thank you Steve ! :)

My 12 year old son started online lessons with Steve, in six months he was not far off of grade 4. This is due to the colour method, rather than using conventional methods. The lessons have been carried out using facetime lessons, which save money and time (which would be spent travelling to lessons). The lessons have helped build his confidence and allowing a specific amount of time to practice. It has helped in becoming more disciplined; an important skill that can be used in virtually every other area of his life. Steve has introduced my son to more complex rhythms, coordination and musical understanding and is now playing Grade 5 pieces. My son has a great connection with Steve and his teaching methods.I highly recommend Steve!

After our previous tutor began having difficulties fitting in lessons for my son we decided it was time for a change.We looked locally and found Steve.Steve has been teaching my son for just under a year and the progress has been fantastic. Steve uses a colour method to simplify and speed up learning to great effect. That, and his thorough knowledge of all things guitar has greatly helped my son who is now playing grade 5 pieces. Steve is thorough in his teaching and works at a pace to suit his pupil. He’s 100% reliable and I would have no doubt in recommending him. Thank you Steve...keep up the good work.

Steve is the best teacher we had so far. He has an unbelievable amount of patience with young kids. My 9 year old LOVES his sessions and looks forward to it each week. I can’t believe how much he has learned in such a short amount of time.The online lessons work very well and we wish to continue with the online lessons in the future as well as my son feels at ease in his home environment and no time is lost due to travelling or settling at the studio.The most important takeaway for me is that my son looks forward to his lessons with Steve every week and he has been so inspirational that my little one started to write his own music and his guitar never gathers dust as it's been played with every day . Steve makes every lesson a fun and educational experienceIf you have a young child at home, you couldn’t ask for a better or more inspiring instructor than Steve.

Steve has been my guitar teacher for the past 8 years and I cannot recommend him as a teacher enough. He’s a fantastic, friendly teacher with brilliant methods.
