About the Business

Capel Lligwy | Cadw | Possibly all that’s left of a vanished community Standing in a lonely spot overlooking Lligwy Bay, little is known about the history of this ruined 12th-century chapel. The stone structure that stands today was probably erected on the site of an older, timber-built Celtic church in the 12th century, when Viking raids on Anglesey came to an end and life on the island became more stable and prosperous.

Great little walk to the ruined Chapel. Parking enough for 4 - 5 cars on the roadside. Great views across Lligwy Bay. More ruins & burial chamber along the road & further around the field

Gentle walk across grassy fields, through a little wooded area to reach the ancient village, then circle back to the historic Chapel with stunning views across to Lligwy Bay. Parking is in a wide layby but can get busy. Entertained a toddler for 45 minutes

Shameful of me to say that having lived here all my life, my boys and I have only just ventured on this beautiful, historical walk. The boys were so surprised at the size of Din Lligwy and explored and discussed every nook and cranny of the place. Stunning views to sit and bask.

Small little ruin of a medeivel chapel.Park in the layby and its just 2 mins across the field. Theres also the remains of an old roman settlement nearby thru the trees 5 mins away on foot. There are small signs for this over the field directing you.It gets muddy so if its been raining recently its pretty much guarenteed to be muddy and boggy.

Worth a stop. You can go into the chapel and walk down a few steps into a burial chamber. Also from here a 5 minute walk to ruins of an ancient village

Dating back to the first half of the 12th century. The chapel's original purpose is unknown, but it might have been used as a memorial chapel or in connection with a local royal court, or as a chapel of ease in a large parish with a growing population. It was used for a time until the early 18th century as a private place of worship for a nearby house, then later fell into disrepair. The walls still remain, with some traces of render on them internally, but there is no roof.
