The Furniture Narrative

After recently moving house, I was in the market for a new mirror. Having searched the high street to no avail, I stumbled upon The Furniture Narrative through their Instagram page. Not only was I met by the perfect mirror for my new home, but a whole host of incredibly well-finished pieces, all of which I could see the extraordinary transformation processes. I sent a direct message and from this point onwards my experience with The Furniture Narrative only went from strength to strength.Emily was delightful to deal with, quickly responding to my queries and concerns, as well as offering the opportunity to view the mirror in person. The moment that I laid eyes on it I knew that it would be leaving with me as it really did look every bit as good as advertised. In future, Emily and The Furniture Narrative will be my first port of call for any pieces that I may need. Thank you again for the fantastic mirror!

Everything that intersects with our lives tells a unique story. Furniture is no different. However, the craftsmanship and character that most modern furnishings lack often lead to our homes being filled with objects we share little or no connection with. Modern manufacturers have conditioned us to accept that even furniture can be throw-away items, and the patina of aged wood, and the nostalgia that furniture should evoke, are replaced by the short-lived gratification that cheap flat-packed pieces provide. Without the intention of this review becoming some sort of obituary strand, a late friend of mine once said “We never actually own anything, at best, all we do is look after things for a while”. With a renewed sense of meaning & purpose, I decided that my furniture must be more than just fitting into a 90cm gap; it's a connection to the past and knowing that each piece is on its own journey helps to bring warmth and charm to my living spaces. My first piece from the Furniture Narrative was a 1940s chest (image attached), and when Emily explained how she rescued it, and lovingly restored it, my first thought was, ‘How can I add to its story?’. It now adorns my hallway and provides a lovely and inviting entrance to my home.

Emily has a real talent at turning what might appear junk to others into gems for lovely homes. Her inspiration comes from a wish to breathe new life into once-loved items, helping the planet, and providing a talking point about her creations as well. Bravo!

We called Emily for help in repairing a number of problems with key pieces of furniture at home. We were looking for someone with a refined understanding of vintage furniture and she was exactly that person. We were also happy to support a local specialised business. Emily was diligent and effective from beginning to end. She was careful and knowledgeable on how to repair the issues and got it all done in little over a visit. Highly recommend Emily’s services.

Great friendly service. Responded swiftly to request, came and picked up our broken chair from home and delivered back, making whole process very easy. Did a lovely and thoughtful job of fixing our chair. Highly recommend!

Really professional and quality work.

Emily is absolutely fantastic. She worked with me to find a piece to suit my needs, and made suggestions of how best to make the chest of drawers look how I wanted it to look and even found cheaper handles that looked the same as the ones I had chosen!She kept me updated on the cost and how the work was going. It was finished very quickly and I couldn't be happier with what she made for me.
