Working with these guys as a consultant, I would like to comment that Matthew and his team run their mine in a very safe, professional, efficient and ethical manner.Thus, the heritage of mining in the Bath region continues to be preserved at Stoke Hill, as does the product, its beautiful Bath stone, continue to be mined - also the resulting architecture continues to delight our eyes - and fundamentally this industry continues to support the local economy.Bath stone is sourced, mined, processed and used locally - a lovely example of sustainability.

Visited for an underground tour with bath college I had a great time and very informative I am really interested in all types of mines and quarries and the history of them and how they are worked.It was great to be shown the beds of the bath stone and the difference in them and what they are each used for and being shown some of the machinery being demonstrated for us.It was so good to be able to have the opportunity to go down the mine and see for myself instead of looking through books or pictures on line.

Had an amazing tour of the Bath stone group mine with ‘Conservation of Historic Buildings’ MSc students from the University of Bath. It was fascinating to see how the stone was extracted, and the drilling and cutting machines in operation. Matthew Hawker showed us around and explained the process in detail answering a range of questions. Thankyou to Matthew and all his colleagues at the mine for making the visit a truly enjoyable and memorable experience.
