I visited the shop as a tourist in town. Very friendly environment, with a great selection of British yarn. I will definitely visit again if I return to Edinburgh.

Really lovely shop. I was on a mission to find Scottish yarn to take home with me. Kathy the owner was so sweet and knowledgeable. She helped me choose some beautiful wool yarn from New Lanark Mills that I hope to soon knit into a winter shawl. It’ll be the perfect souvenir from my visit to Edinburgh.

This was a totally miserable shopping experience. I went to buy a single skein of yarn from a particular producer. Kathy's is the only shop that sells it in Edinburgh. I made my choice and took it to the till. The assistant (owner?) said it was £24. I pointed out that the same yarn is £20 on the (small, UK) producer's own website. She thought for a bit, then said that £24 was the price it came in at, and they might have found a cheaper supplier since then (they haven't - the producer uses fleece from their own sheep). I bought it anyway, as I told myself once I'd paid postage to buy online, the price would come out the same, though all the while knowing that I was being cheated. The icing on the cake was that she refused to give me a receipt for my purchase. When I asked for one I got a single word reply: No". In speaking to other knitters since then I've learnt that the owner has a reputation for overcharging. I won't be going back."

Finally made it to Kathy's Knits! The shop is just as lovely as I expected, with the wealth of colours and textures of real British wool. The experience was further enhanced by meeting Lucy Hague for a bit of hero worshipping!

I was super excited to visit this knitting store. I had heard great things and it has great review. When we walked in the owner was talking to another customer about their partners project. So after having looked around the store I went up to ask the owner after her talk with the previous person if they had any mohair as I am about to start a new project. This is where everything goes downhill as the owner then turned to my partner and I and was like ‘No, well, as it is hand dyed it is very expensive’ and then telling us that John Lewis sold it and would be more in our price range. No offer to show it to us, no further discussion. This made it clear to the both of us that she had deemed us unable to afford the yarn and not worth the effort to even show it to us. Over all it was just a horrible experience and we will not be going back.

I really enjoyed meeting Kathy yesterday and was very impressed by the wide range of local yarns, roving (top? I'm not a spinner), and patterns. This would definitely be my LYS if I lived here. She has cones of yarn, too, I think it's Jameson? I'll come back and edit once I'm sure.I bought some of her mohair/wool blend to make a blanket, it has a lovely hand, and a pale pink cabled yarn.

We bought yarn today for our friend in the US. Exceptional and friendly service to two uninformed US males trying to get our friend what she wants. This has been our experience in Scotland for the last 8 days. Everyone is welcoming and helpful.

I recently visited Kathy’s knits on my vacation to Edinburgh. This shop was on my list because I wanted to bring home some beautiful local Scottish wool. This shop did NOT disappoint... Kathy was so wonderful and welcoming. Walking into this shop is like walking into the living room of a good friend and having them let you raid their yarn stash to your hearts content. I had a fantastic visit and great conversation with Kathy. Visiting this shop was one of the best experiences I had while visiting the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Highly recommend if your looking for a local spot with an amazing assortment of Scottish wools and a warm and inviting environment. So glad I got to visit this shop and meet the wonderful woman who runs it!

Kathy was amazing! Helped us a bunch and the yarn selection was exactly what we came for. Found amazing Scottish wool and left as a very happy customer. Definitely coming back the next time I’m in Edin.
