Butser Ancient Farm
An intriguing look into ancient life, starting with a Stone Age farm before progressing through a Bronze Age roundhouse and Celtic village, to a Roman villa and Saxon halls. There's even real livestock, farmed on site using ancient methods.Lots of activities and interactive workshops were taking place to keep younger visitors occupied. There's excellent signage around the site, and plenty of knowledgeable guides around to answer questions. The visitor centre houses a gift shop and toilets, and also serves light refreshments. Ample parking is available on site. When I visited, tickets were £11.50 for adults (£7.50 for children).Opening times are 10:00 to 16:00, with last admission at 14:30, so a morning arrival is advisable to make the most of your visit. The farm is open weekends and bank holidays between April and October.

We drove over an hour to visit with my 7yo and it did not disappoint! The amount of work that must have gone into building the settlements is impressive and the effect a success. The staff was very welcoming, knowledgeable and engaged. It was a pleasure to visit and I highly recommend for kids and grown ups alike.

Heaven for trying on experimental archeology. Great for kids to get hands on directly and feel the history. We had an excellent day there and the staff were fantastic and friendly. And yes it did rain when we were there (as you can see in our photos) but it didn't matter. We got so much from this day here. John and his daughter showed us how to carve in stones in the Neolithic house, at the same time telling about the site and their work and information about the stone age. We also did spinning wool weaving, mosaic and saw different use of spindles. As all of the kids say, we want to come back many more times. Thank you so much for our wonderful day at Butser.

We love this place. Obviously amazing at Beltain, but we visit regularly on an average weekend and have never had a bad trip. Fantastic for kids and anyone interested in history/prehistory

Yes, you can walk around it in 30mins but you'd miss it! Talk to the volunteers, engage with the buildings and five hours will just disappear! Fabulous!

We visited for the winter solstice event. It was superb. The staff were amazing. Lots of things to do; winter crown making, corn dolls and the quest to find the Deer Queen. Great for all the family. Highly recommended.

It was fun to visit this place. Online ticket is £1 cheaper. They have some performances as well. Very friendly people. I could see children are enjoying it a lot. Could be a great family experience.
