Went here for my graduation meal. The service could not be faulted. I ordered the sole dish for my main but they had ran out so offered cod instead. It was cooked perfectly and very tasty. My step dad has mentioned the duck he had to anyone he can and again says it was cooked perfectly. We ordered off the set menu which is very reasonably priced for the standard of food and the quality of service received! One of the party has an intolerance to onions which was dealt with fantastically. The staff were very accommodating.Would definitely recommend to anyone and will definitely try to come back !

Fantastic meal for our anniversary, first time we have dined here. Menu choices were quite varied and alot of options for different price points including an optional set menu with 2 courses for only £26.Staff are very attentive and helpful, also quite chipper. If you're looking for some high end food and you want a lovely welcoming warm setting this is the place.

Had our first visit here today and was so excited as we hadn’t been in before and I’m sorry to say I was really disappointed. The pumpkin and chilli soup was just warm and the general consensus is that the food was just okay. I was asked to check the price of the wine when I ordered it which really made me feel uncomfortable.Service was good. Restaurant is beautiful, but it just does not come up to standard with the food.

Lovely late lunch in the courtyard on a sunny day. Staff were friendly, the service was excellent, and the food was first class. We both had the goat's cheese beetroot and walnut starter, which was a great tasty combination. We both had the grilled cod, new potatoes, and spinach served with caper butter again lovely. The French martini cocktail was perfection, and the 2 for £15 good value for the quality. This was our first visit for restaurant week, and we shall return.

One of the BEST restaurants in Newcastle and quite possibly the entire north east.A beautiful location, very good, professional yet not too stiff or flashy service from a very good, well-oiled team.Prices, in comparison to other places and for the quality of food and service here, are very reasonable. Which brings me, finally to the food. One word - SUBLIME.If you enjoy good dining, I really can't recommend Blackfriars enough. 10/10

I went for a medieval banquet for my friend’s birthday and was really impressed!I’m vegan so I emailed ahead of time to ask about vegan options. I was told their vegan option was mushroom based and asked if they had any other options since I don’t like mushrooms. They said they would make me something else and they did!Everyone had a very thorough knowledge of what was and wasn’t vegan. They even had a vegan cheese plate for the cheese course and offered a mead alternative.I was really impressed with how well they listened and how seriously they took dietary requirements. On top of that I really enjoyed the food itself, although I will say that while you definitely do get bang for your buck, there is SO much food that a lot of it ended up going to waste. It would be nice to have a balance between making sure people feel like they are getting what they pay for without serving an amount of food that is impossible to eat.Overall, wonderful experience!
