Golden Stitches and Alterations Cambridge

I see there are many positive reviews for this shop. However, we had a very bad experience in an attempt to get a replacement zip for a pair of jeans. We paid £20 for a zip which we were told would have a 6 month guarantee. When the jeans were tried on the zip broke after 30 minutes of wear. When we came to ask for a replacement, the man said it was our fault that the breakage occurred. He argued with us but eventually said he’d fix it in an hour. When we picked it up we realised he hadn’t replaced the zip but had sewed up the bottom. We weren’t happy with this and returned to the shop to explain showing the jeans to the man. This raised an argument which ended with the man tearing the zip in front of us, throwing them at my wife and shooing us out of the shop (see picture attached showing damage). He then went out after us shouting. We were not aggressive in any way. We are disappointed at this as we were looking for a local and sustainable solution to a problem but we certainly won’t be returning here.

Very good experience. Helped us out with an urgent alteration needed. Did an excellent job and seemed to be a real expert.

Wouldn’t say the owner is friendly or polite at all even tho you entered the shop with a smile and asked politely for an alteration. Also, he doesn’t take card payment even tho their price is over £50. Which would carry that much cash nowadays?

I have a well-loved thin scarf whose ends were badly torn. The tailor said he’ll cut it for £10. I guess I should have checked with him beforehand to clarify whether he would put a seam on the ends (he did not). He just cut off the ends - and not straight. The photos do not give justice to how uneven the ends are. Given the shoddy work and the prior comments about his temperament I opted to not go back to make sure my scarf can be saved by someone else.

Nicely located on Mill Road next to Cho Mee supermarket, opposite Gwydir Street Car park. The owner is very polite and fixed the zip on a coat without having to replace the entire zip. Thank you!

I asked for my vintage Laura Ashley dress to be loosened up a bit around the arms and at the back so that I could do up the zip all the way.The tailor worked miracles! The dress now fits like a glove and I'm so happy with the alterations he did.

I had 5 suits (yes 5) altered and they all turned out amazing. I got the suit jacket arm shortened and the the trousers shortened and hemmed too. All turned out great. Will do business here again.

I came here to get a wool coat repaired because it had a hole in the back. The service was quick and professional and I'm very impressed by the results. After getting it back I couldn't even tell where the hole had been. Thanks, will definitely be coming here again if I have anything else that needs fixing!

Had my 3 piece suit adjusted for my wedding. Really impressed as he knew knew what to do, quick service and an amazing job. My wife really appreciate the job he'd done on our suit on the wedding day! Will definitely be recommending!

Will never go even close to it. Went in to ask to fix my trousers, the price was unexpectedly high, I had same problem with a couple of other trousers before so I knew how much it would cost. Said to the guy you charge too high, he replied that’s because my trousers is too cheap so I can’t afford to pay for repair. I walked out the door to the bottom of the mill road the other tailor, paid half of the price and fixed perfectly in just one minute. Never ever again.
