The Forestry Commission base & yard is notable for containing a 1930's period, log cabin built in traditional style & still in use. The nearby bridge over the River Ouse was built around the same time & is famous for featuring in an episode of 'Dad's Army'. The plot involved the Home Guard requisitioning a fire engine & being filmed driving it across the bridge. The footage is now half a century old, but this bridge & stretch of road hasn't changed at all...

Very nice woodland walk. Good carpark and loos, very quiet and well maintained.a few more / more obvious direction signs would be nice, and black on yellow to dark blue on yellow are not so easy to differentiate.

Fantastic walks by the river, a super place to alight a canoe, the ramp thing, and if you go on a hot day, there is an ice cream van there, selling ice cream stuff I have never seen, from a van. Worth the walk, just for that van. Kids will love it. Mine did. Definitely going back. One gripe, no bins, and those ugly people just throw their junk on the floor. Us educated ones don't, we take theirs home too.

The Santon downham forestry commission area is a nice area to walk and view the wildlife. There is a carpark and toilets at the forestry commission but only a carpark at the St. Helen's site.

It's a great place to visit and lots of safe places to walk. Someone is always about if you are unsure which way to head out. Car park is free of charge. Enjoy the fresh air, and see where you end up

Nicecwalks through the forest but marker posts are few and far. Several paths intersected with no indication which was the route you were to follow

Vast forest, free parking at various locations. Loads to see and do. As a lover of walking, we opted for one of the, well signposted, walk. Great place to visit.

Have been coming here for years and love the place. A sleepy small village/hamlet in the forest. Beautiful river walks or walks off into the forest. Peaceful, serene and very picturesque all year round, whatever the weather.
