Barend Holiday Lodges
First time we have stayed here but not first time to the area.We stayed at lodge 49. We chose this for the free Wi-Fi and because it was dog friendly. What a great place this is.We collected the keys from reception, if you are arriving later like we were planning to then you can collect the keys from the on-site restaurant. Easy. Then we got access to the lodge and was surprised it came with sky tv and Netflix, big bonus. Wi-Fi speed was 56mbs which for down here is excellent. The lodge was very clean and tidy, and despite being “pet friendly” there was zero previous smell of pets. Testament to the cleaning staff. The lodge had everything you needed and the bathroom was new. Really couldn’t fault it.The overall park is great. They have a dog friendly restaurant called the Beagle and a pool too for kids if you have them. The whole place is clearly well cared for with lots of signs and evidence that the lodges on whole are well looked after.A short walk is the local beach, or if you drive it’s 1min away but will cost you £5 to park for the day. There are double yellows everywhere else so you have no choice but again if you walk it’s downhill and no more than 10-15 mins max.We had lunch at the on-site restaurant which was great and then dinner at The Anchor in kippford which is very dog friendly and then dinner twice at a place called Nikos in Castle Douglas. Twice, it’s that good and again dog friendly too.You can read my separate reviews for both of these places but well worth a visit. All in all sad to be heading home but will be back here. Such a great place.

Fantastic holiday on a really lovely site. The lodges are perfect for families and the site is well maintained. The Beagle pub serves great food and drink and the service was very good. The swimming pool was really nice and we really liked the fact you booked it for a private slot. We had 2 sessions for 1hr each and we had a great time. The wildlife around the site is amazing too, keep your eyes out for badgers, woodpeckers, rabbits, and red squirrels to name just a few.Would love to come back.

Beautiful location on wooded hillside overlooking a pretty loch, very close to a large sandy beach with shop and toilets - ideal for family groups.

Stayed in lodge 19 which was very comfortable & warm. Kitchen was clean & had lots of equipment. The site is very quiet & staff very friendly. Really enjoyed the allocated time in the pool. A very relaxing time to recharge my batteries. The onsite bar is also excellent. Great food & good choice of ales. Will definitely return.

Barend Holiday Lodges
Lovely place. Utterly charming location. Visited by a badger a couple of times while we watched the stars from the balcony and listened to the owls hooting. A real bonus was the private slot for the swimming pool. We stayed in lodge 15 which had a nice, cosy retro feel, if slightly tired. All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful, especially those in the Beagle. I last visited Barend as a 12 year old back in the 80s, and our own 12 year old loved it just as much as I did back then. We'll certainly return.

Love Barend Holiday Lodges and could not possibly leave any less than a 5⭐️ I have been visiting here since 2015. Love to visit at least once a year to get away and relax. Usually we just book any lodge based on availability and don’t have a problem. That being said, we visited lodge 41 most recently and would not book that one again. It was very clean but the bed(s) were so uncomfortable! Next time we will just book a different one. Did not put us off.
