Hillstone Lodge
Hillstone Lodge, Russell and Patrice are gems. From the warm welcome, to their impeccably kept B&B.… no detail is overlooked. The 3 lovely rooms all look out over the gorgeous landscape, water, sky, land and sheep! Excellent breakfast, thoughtfully appointed rooms, a freshly baked treat and fresh fruit placed in your room for a snack and a darling west highland terrier, too boot. It’s perfection. We can’t wait to return.

We arrived after a lengthy drive from Inverness, for a 5 night stay to celebrate a special birthday, and were greeted warmly by Bertie and Jana. After being shown around, Bertie provided a bottle of chilled bubbly along with cakes Jana had baked. We were provided her home-baked treats in the room every day, for our return from day trips, which was a really thoughtful touch. At breakfast we had a daily personalised leaflet of Bertie’s insider knowledge about local sights and options to visit. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and consistently tasty, we had to restrain from over ordering. Our bedroom upstairs had lovely views, a very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom and everything you could need in a well designed compact space. The lodge is a slice of luxury while feeling relaxed and informal. Bertie and Jana have the right balance of care and attention to guests and we enjoyed exceptional weather for April which became a talking point. We recommend a meal at The Three Chimneys which is a short walk down the lane, and a trip over to Edinbane Lodge for some excellent food and an experience at both - if you are lucky enough to secure a table! If you hire a car beware there are a lot of pot holes on the island. However you might be lucky enough to spot the Aurora, which we disappointingly didn’t get to experience during that particular week but Bertie keeps watch! Hillstone Lodge was perfect and we will definitely return.

I wish I could given Hillstone more stars!! Hillstone Lodge was one of my favorite places that I've ever stayed -- not just in Skye or Scotland, but anywhere. Russell, Patrice, and Inca (their dog) are incredible hosts and made our stay so peaceful and relaxing. Patrice is a phenomenal cook, so we were treated to delicious breakfasts (including homemade yogurt!) and homemade afternoon snacks. Russell provided very helpful recommendations for hiking and other activities, so we could experience Skye at its finest. Additionally, the B&B is very tastefully decorated, with artwork from local artists featured in the common areas, has stunning views of Loch Dunvegan (we even saw pods of dolphins swimming in the Loch from our breakfast table!), and is very zen, with calming music playing in the common areas. I could not imagine more welcoming hosts, and I look forward to returning again soon -- what an incredible vacation!

A magical two days on Skye at the Hillstone! Bertie & Jana were most attentive and provided a wonderful itinerary for our (sadly) short stay. We had two absolutely incredible breakfasts and we followed their suggestions for restaurants, whisky, hiking, sights and local artisans. Wonderful hospitality, incredible baking (thank you Jana), and a rainbow as we left on our last morning:)

This is our new favorite place to stay in sky! Best latte and pies I have ever had, and the hosts are so lovely. I loved having someone fuss over me while on vacation. It makes it feel like a real vacation! We were lucky enough to watch them shoo sheep away, and I thought of them today as I shooed my dog off of my own garden! We look forward to coming back ASAP.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the beautiful Hillstone Lodge for 4 nights in June 2023 and we wished we could stay for the rest of the year!!! We were blown away by Bertie and Jana's hospitality, the absolutely gorgeous location and architecture, the delicious food prepared by Jana, and the feeling of being catered to all week! The entire experience was one that we will remember forever. It is even more beautiful than the photos I have attached to my review.When you arrive, Bertie and Jana immediately greet you with warmth and kindness (and freshly-baked treats!) and introduce you to the accommodation. Each evening, you can choose from a selection of incredible breakfasts for the next day, which are prepared from scratch by Jana! I cannot stress enough how delicious these breakfasts were - I am still craving anything that good a month later. And Jana was very sensitive to my nut allergy, which put me right at ease.The dining room is gorgeous, with near-panoramic views and is a fantastic sunset location if you want to enjoy a beer or scotch at the end of the day like we did. Each day, Bertie and Jana also print out a lovely, personalized itinerary for you, with recommendations for things to see/do and some local tips - we were able to see a beautiful hidden" waterfall this way

Bertie and Jana welcomed us with so much care and enthusiasm we felt right at home instantly! Every little detail is designed to create a delicious experience for all aspects of enjoying the isle of Skye to the fullest. Beautifully designed home, with wood and warm finishes. The rooms all have incredible views, soft sheets, generous towels, coffee and tea making appliances, humungous bathrooms with aromatherapy noble products. Bathrobes, slippers, home made cookies, bottled water, excellent wifi, a cozy living area are just some of the highlights... The breakfast is divine with Jana whipping out the most perfect eggs Benedict I have ever tasted. A great starting point for isle of Skye explorations, minutes from Neist Point and Dunvegan. Book early... A true delight!

Following our stay in September 2019, we knew we would be back to visit Patrice and Russell at Hillstone Lodge. The hospitality experience is by far the best we have ever encountered. Every detail from the rooms to breakfast to covid protocols is thoughtfully considered and executed perfectly. I am still dreaming of Patrice's delicious afternoon treats. As our first international trip in quite some time, Hillstone was ideal location to explore Skye and relax in an idyllic setting. Russell's suggestions for daily activities provided awe-inspiring experiences and a chance to see corners of Skye we previously had not discovered. It comes as no surprise that we are already planning our next trip to Skye and there is no doubt we will be staying at Hillstone Lodge again!

My husband and I stayed at Hillstone Lodge towards the end of the season. We found the hosts, Russell and Patrice, extremely attentive and helpful while also giving us some space to enjoy the room and stunning views. Their friendly personalities added to the entire experience.The attention to detail was superb. We can easily compare the facilities and room furnishings to some of the best 5* boutique hotels we have had the pleasure of staying in. The room had everything we could need throughout our stay. Showers are simply stunning! Waking up to the view from our room each morning was an unforgettable experience. As well as enjoying the views from the communal sitting room while being treated to some of the best whiskey produced on the island after a long day hiking. We were also very pleasantly surprised with our TV in the room that offered Netflix and several other services we enjoyed during a rainy night.The breakfast is also incredibly fresh and delicious. The hosts accommodated our various dietary requirements with not even a flinch and always served us with a warm, friendly smile.We felt very welcome. The property is very well appointed, the views are stunning, and the hosts are there whenever you need them. Fantastic stay. We highly recommend Hillstone Lodge for a 5* stay on Skye.

Hillstone lodge was one of the highlights of our honeymoon. When pulling up to the lodge, Bertie and Jana greeted us with so much warmth before showing us our room. The room (and entire lodge) was immaculately clean, calm, and luxurious with every detail accounted for. In the room we were surprised with a special homemade treat. Not only was it delicious but it was made in consideration of my gluten allergy! They were even aware of cross contamination and when I ordered gluten free waffles (again, homemade), they purchased a separate waffle maker so that I could safely take part despite my allergy. I could write an essay about all the personalised details Bertie and Jana put into the Hillstone experience... but I would ruin some incredible surprises that certainly elevated our stay beyond our wildest expectations. Bertie and Jana's have obviously extensive experience in providing 5 star service, and they have perfected its deliverance with friendliness, and personability. We truly were sad to go and our honeymoon was perfected with our relaxing stay (much needed after the stress of a wedding) on Skye that was again made even more amazing than originally planned due to Bertie and Jana's recommendations. Somehow, they have made the already magical isle of Skye... even more incredible! Thank you again Bertie and Jana!
