The portrait of Mrs. Calvert was approaching its 200th birthday, and was sound, but looked very dull behind discoloured varnish. James removed the varnish (and dirt!) and retouched some areas before re-varnishing. The painting is now bright and details which were previously barely visible are now clear. James explained that the painting had seen a previous restoration, with some unsympathetic re-touching,which covered some of the detail and which he had removed before completing the restoration.I cannot find a better word than delighted" to describe my own and my wife's reaction to the completed restoration. James was clear throughout as to what he proposed to do and provided updates on and photos of the work in progress. His fees for the work were very reasonable. It was a pleasure to deal with him."

My much-loved Victorian oil seascape and it’s gilded frame carried 90 years of grime, a poor previous restoration in that period and a frame which carried the knocks of the years.James gave me a prompt estimate range based on emailed photographs together with a variety of options with regard to frame restoration.The picture was ready in one month and securely couriered in excellent protective packing.Within that packing was the very pleasing results of his work. A painting now 30 percent brighter with hitherto unseen detail now apparent. The frame restoration was first class.His final invoice was significantly under the worst case estimate and very reasonable.Throughout the restoration he kept me informed.His customer service, quality of work and reasonable prices are superb.He comes with my strongest recommendation.

James Bloomfield has worked on about 35 of my oil paintings in the last five years or so. Purchased mainly on ebay, they have ranged in value from about £100 to £4500. I have always been delighted with his work, and as I purchase more oils, they will go to him as first port-of-call, whether it be for repair and localised re-painting or 'just' cleaning. He has also re-gilded a few frames for me. Recommended in the strongest possible terms.

I have a Bob Barker painting that I cherish, unfortunately I caught it on the side of the ladder, ( decorating), whilst taking it off the wall, resulting in causing a slight scratch on the canvas. Although it didn't look deep and prominent, I couldn't help but keep looking at it, even though you try to ignore it. Over the last few years James has cleaned a number of paintings for me, but on this occasion we needed to restore the existing early 19th century frame on a large (1650mm x 1400mm) family portrait that had suffered over the years. James needed to remould and replace a number of the plaster elements of the frame as part of the restoration. Wow. That's all I can say. James has given new life to my great,great,great grandfather. He restored a family painting that we thought would be impossible to repair. And he brought the wind back into a sailing painting that had gone flat. In addition he was a joy to work with and his prices were very fair (even cheap) for the expertise and care he exercised. James did a fantastic job of correcting a picture which i had to rescue from another so called restorer who i thought had ruined a hundred year old oleograph family picture.James managed to remove nearly all the overpainting which had been done to a very poor standard.His charges were very reasonable for the skill and knowledge he has and he even reframed it for me thanks for the glass ( after i broke the glass going to collect ) so once again thank you
