Mike Hayton Hand Surgeon
Mr Hayton is the best: a construct that has many dimensions which I will now explain. Firstly he treats every patient with courtesy and patience irrespective of whether they are eminent sports people or ordinary folk e.g. myself, an enthusiastic but ageing amateur Ballroom and Latin American dancer. He really listens and provides a number of solutions because he is so very skilled and knowledgeable. Certainly, whenever I have mentioned his name within other NHS or private settings eg. Hand therapists, even in a location 200 miles from Manchester, his name is instantly recognised and the reports are so favourable: skilled; personable; responsive; respected; always up on the latest developments. When I began to consider solutions for the pain in my right hand ( I had a fracture successfully fused in my left hand six years ago) I knew that Mr Hayton was worth travelling the distance for (I’ve relocated 150 miles from Manchester). and I was not disappointed . He puts one instantly at ease and outlines the cost/benefits in very clear succinct terms. Prior to the meeting he viewed my personally owned scans and responded within 24 hours- that level of responsiveness is so impressive given his other commitments. So, in summary, I am happy to report that I will not even consider another hand surgeon even if it were free because health requires more than skill and knowledge. Mr Hayton takes the risk out of decision making through competence and his exceptional interpersonal manner.

Mike has been phenomenal. From our first contact with him he showed a real 'can do' attitude, whilst giving us a full and clear understanding of the wrist injury my son had and how he proposed to resolve a difficult situation, whilst giving us realistic expectations. He was recommended to us by many people and is well respected amongst the medical community and other orthopaedic surgeons. He responded to emails and phone calls incredibly quickly and was always willing to answer questions and worries and do all he could to help in all aspects of my son's care.Mike carried out scaphoid revision surgery, with a tricky fracture, following a previous failed operation by others. After seeing the original CT Scan he immediately understood that he needed to get a screw into the bones at a tricky angle to successfully join the fractured bones. He backed up all his advice with reference to relevant medical literature and studies. He fought to get the surgery done quickly, despite the covid pandemic restrictions, with an understanding that the sooner the operation took place, the better the chances of success. He also used video conferencing to great advantage and helped by making our appointments later in the day so that we had time to travel to them easily. My son is a national grade rugby player and Mike took full account of my son's sporting background and the physical needs of the position he plays and the impact that it has on his wrist and the need for the operation to be successful for any potential future career. He has successfully rescued my son's potential sporting future and given him a fighting chance of playing elite rugby again. We couldn't recommend him highly enough. The successful revision surgery has given my son hope and opportunity. We will be forever grateful.

As an ophthalmic surgeon my thumb is one of most important part of my body. When I needed a surgery on my thumb I asked many of my Orthopaedic friends and colleagues for recommendations, all pointed toward Mr Hayton. I have to say the care I had received from Mr Hayton and his team has been exceptional from the communications to excellent surgery that he performed on my thumb. I was back operating myself very soon after the surgery.

In 2011, I came off my mountain bike and landed on my left hand. Over the next two years I suffered increasingly intense pain in my wrist and more and more frequently started dropping things as the wrist gave way. It also became quite challenging to write as it was my dominant hand/wrist. The wrist was eventually scanned by my local hospital who said they could find nothing wrong.Following a conversation with a well known Motogp rider who highly recommended Mike, I went for a second opinion in January 2013 and he immediately diagnosed a torn scaphoid lunate ligament. Mike proposed a reconstruction which was done just a week later and I am delighted to report that the wrist soon after the op regained all of its strength, mobility and has remained pain free ever since. After the recovery period I returned to all activities although I started to ride the mountain bike a little less fast and aggressively!!Trigger Finger has been hereditary in my family and I have suffered from this painful and debilitating condition over recent years. Mike successfully released the problem in my right hand in 2016 and there has been no re-occurrence. In August this year he released Trigger Finger in my left hand together with some tendon adhesions. I am again well on the road to recovery and look forward to returning to play golf (poorly). After entrusting Mike with 3 hand/wrist procedures over the past 10 years, I could not recommend him more highly and he has earned my full trust and confidence. Apart from being so obviously talented and skilled with hands and wrists, I have found Mike to be approachable, friendly, re-assuring and accommodating and he is always quick to respond to any queries pre and post op. I must also give mention to Fiona, Mike's Private Practice Secretary, who could not be more helpful, friendly and efficient.Thank you Team Hayton for all you have done for me over the past 10 years.

Mike Hayton was recommended to me as an excellent hand surgeon when I recently experienced a ruptured thumb tendon following a wrist fracture. I received a quick appointment, good explanation of the tendon transfer procedure he could perform to solve the problem, and just a couple of months later I’m very pleased with the outcome of the surgery. I can finally use my thumb again! It was all very friendly, thorough and efficient - I would highly recommend Mike for anyone needing hand surgery.

Would certainly recommend Dr Mike Hayton to anyone with any hand injury. After snapping the tendon and ligament in my finger playing Rugby, i was put in contact with Mike who had to completely reconstruct the finger and very neatly when doing so. A true professional who talked me through the whole process explaining every step throughout the operation which was reassuring, and amazing to witness. Mike was excellent in helping me get back playing as quickly as possibly. I couldn’t thank him enough for his surgery

Forever grateful to Mr Hayton for recent surgery to my right arm/hand. I had been injured for sometime after a cycling accident, other specialists couldn't help. After meticulous investigation a diagnoses was made and bespoke surgery researched, planned and executed.Wrist movements have improved to a point where I can now plan a return to the field of Dentistry. He is caring, attentive and compassionate. Completely dedicated to his work and most importantly his patients. I only wish I had found him earlier in my journey.

From the initial consultation, Mike has gone above and beyond anything I could have ever imagined to ensure I had the best chance of successful surgery. I can’t thank Mike enough for all he has done for me.Following failed surgery on my scaphoid in 2018, I went to Mike after multiple recommendations from friends and reading about Mike’s expertise online. Due to the non-union being left undiagnosed for a long time, it was important that the surgery was carried out quickly. The need for a functioning wrist, post operation, was imperative for me to return to playing rugby.Mike understood the urgency for the surgery to take place and worked incredible hard to get me seen to as soon as possible, despite the pandemic. His extensive sporting knowledge meant he was fully aware of what I needed from the surgery and his expertise with scaphoid non-unions ensured a perfect screw placement across the fracture, allowing me to make a full recovery, despite slim chances, and return to sport just 4 months post surgery.Mike gave me confidence by explaining all his thoughts thoroughly and clearly to me at every stage, whilst also providing realistic recovery time frames and expectations for the outcome of the surgery. He truly recognised the importance of the surgery to me and what it meant for my future. Thank you for everything Mike!

Was referred to Mr Hayton on recommendation from a physiotherapist & best thing I could of done. Mr Hayton is very professional and has been described as one of the best hand surgeons in the business which I believe following my own experience. Mr Hayton completed a full reconstruction on my ulnar collateral ligament and I am extremely happy with the results. I had lost all hope of getting the use of my thumb back and now 5 months later I am all fixed. Nice neat job with minimal scarring which is hardly even noticeable.

I was fortunate - or unfortunate dependant on how you see it - to need hand surgery 7 years ago. Mr Hayton carried out the surgery and the results and recovery have been excellent. I’m now in need of similar surgery on my other hand and again, I’m pleased to say it will be undertaken under the guidance of Mr Hayton.
