Intrepid Studios & Darkroom

Attended one of the recent Artist Talks and honestly so happy Brighton has Intrepid Studios who support and encourage local artists.The space is great, has amazing facilities and I’m so excited to get creating in the studio and darkroom!

A fun, relaxed, hands-on, interactive workshop to understand, use and explore a large format camera!We took pictures, we developed and we printed using both a developer as well as a scanner.

I visited the newly opened Intrepid Studios to take part in their ‘Introduction to Darkroom Printing: Colour’ workshop.Having only worked with black & white darkroom printing in the past, trying out colour printing was really special!The workshop was led by Josh whose approach was both informative & knowledgeable.Each stage of talking us through the process was well planned & thought out.The hands-on approach of the workshop allowed me to not only learn about the technical aspects of color darkroom photography but also gave me the opportunity to put my newfound skills into practice.The atmosphere was relaxed and encouraging, making it easy to ask questions and collaborate with others.The multi-purpose space for photographers is exactly what Brighton needs.Excited to see what’s next in store for Intrepid Studios!I highly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in learning more about color darkroom photography.Thanks again!

I recently attended an Intrepid Cameras (Brighton) workshop Introduction to 4x5 Photography". There were 10 attendees with a very wide range of previous photographic experience

I attended one of the first workshops on colour darkroom printing, having never done it before and have been so impressed with the whole experience. The space is neat, practical and professionally equipped.The workshop itself was lead by Josh.From start to finish each step, explanation and examples were extremely well thought through and easy to follow and his teaching style was very calm and easy to approach with any questions, clearly having extensive knowledge and a genuine love of the process.I’ve had such lovely experience, I feel completely inspired and have learnt so much. Thank you.

I booked an Introduction to 4x5 photography" workshop in August 2023. I did this as a way to try out large format photography

Visited Intrepid studios for a Black & White Darkroom Printing workshop, run by Josh.It was such an amazing, informative and creative day. Refreshing some old skills, and learning about how darkroom technology has moved forward making things a lot easier.Josh was an incredible host, and I left with a print that I am so proud of.The space itself is super dynamic, with the studio corner for both film and digital photography, a digital suite, and then the darkrooms.Will be coming back for the colour workshop.

The introduction to large format photography workshop at the Intrepid studios was fantastic, very eye opening and I learnt more from my day there than all the hours of YouTube videos I could find on 4x5 photography. If you are interested in 4x5 and not sure you want to make the leap, I recommend the workshop.

I spent the day down at the B&W workshop. Josh was incredibly informative, knowledgeable and friendly in teaching us the basics, how to use our equipment, and how to develop prints over and over until we got them the best they could be - he has a lot of patience! The studio itself is a gorgeous place to work, clean and tidy and fantastic equipment ready to use. I finished with some high quality prints that I'm super proud of. Can't wait to hire space to be back doing more. 10/10 would recommend - Brighton has nothing else like this.
