Sea Kayak Academy

An absolutely great Sea kayaking weekend with Ian, he is a very professional coach, his experience is second to none and he has excellent local knowledge of good paddles around the coastline to suit all abilities. Our 26km paddle around the southern part of the coast was spectacular and the paddle to Skomer Island to see the puffins is well worth a visit in May. Would also recommend these guys if you want to have the most enjoyable training and trips. He is a great coach and We shall be back!

If you want to improve your skills or just start your journey, I can think of no team more qualified to grow your confidence and ability. The patience of the coach was both inspiring and infinite, not once did I feel a failure and the quality of coaching was/is profoundly professional. Even ignoring the kayaking, the coaching is of the highest quality, a professional inspiration as well as frustratingly brilliant

My two sons and I had a fantastic day with Sea Kayak Academy the experience is one I would thoroughly recommend to those who want to try out sea kayaking. Amy's sea safety coaching and kayaking instruction was very informative without impacting on the enjoyment of our day on the water. We felt safe and comfortable at all times. A very enjoyable day including the non-mandatory dunking at the end!

Had a brilliant couple of days on a BC Sea Kayak Award Course with a mate.Very informative, excellent local knowledge, totally flexible with the itinerary, relaxed and helpful.Hadn't met any of the team prior to booking, but through a series of messages I was happy that they could cater for our objectives.Excellent communication throughout, simple to pay and even got a free camp spot into the bargain!We learnt way more than we could have expected, from planning with charts, maps and apps through to reading the water and picking routes through the rocks. Got some surfing into the bargain and some tide race action too! Maneuvering was practiced through some caves and rocks with some nice pour over features. Did some rough water rescue and a some risk assessment.SKA couldn't have been more accommodating throughout. The excellent photos taken by Ian were a really nice additional touch.....not many people take a DSLR out on the water!Thanks for a brilliant couple of days. We will be back for sure!Darren.

I just finished a few days of moderate water training with Ian. What a great experience! Ian is a natural born teacher; patient, calm, constructive and able to nudge you out of your comfort zone in a way that feels controlled. He had me paddling in a tidal race on the first day, which is something I never thought I’d have the confidence to do. I feel I have gained so much confidence and skill from my time out along the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast, and also really enjoyed Ian’s extensive knowledge of the local wildlife and geology. I’m already planning to return for more!

Amy and Ian both brilliant instructors - capable, generous, supportive, insightful. Both courses I completed - the sea kayak safety day and 2 day sea kayak award - were calibrated perfectly to cover the essential elements of taking to the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline. From planning a trip to advise about gear, paddle techniques to reading the water and performing rescues, I have received inspiration and technique in equal measure. challenged myself just enough without ever feeling (figuratively) out if my depth. Highly recommend Sea Kayak Academy for developing confidence and skills to become an independent sea kayaker.

Attended a sea kayaking course run by the academy. It was very well delivered and planned out. Totally enjoyable wonderful two days.Due to weather the format was changed slightly to accommodate for safe time on the water plus time in class room working on improving our knowledge as well as paddling skills.Ian was great and made the whole event so enjoyable and fun.Could not recommend highly enough.

We did the beginners course with Amy and what can I say, it was a fantastic day! A warm welcome was followed by a compact briefing with really helpful tips for the day and route planning in general. Even the required safety briefing was good and useful (see end of the day). Then we went to Fischguard and got into the boats and onto the water. As we wound our way along the cliffs around the rocks, Amy was a source of information in the most beautiful classroom" imaginable. We were particularly proud when we successfully rescued each other at the end of the day in a rescue exercise.The only negative thing is that we are now completely addicted to kayaking and we are planning when we can book the next course. I had a great day with Amy learning about safety measures and practising rescue. What a privilege to have one to one coaching! The day started in the classroom where I was provided with so much relevant and useful information to prepare a kayak outing. We then moved to the sea where I felt in good hands to practise new skills such as edging and rescue. I can't wait for the next course
