Thrifty Car and Van Rental Cambridge

Awful experience. First, checkout takes comprehensive damage report on car. I've only seen this in third world countries. Be sure to video everything! Second, given this mania for noting even blemish, they were surprised when I told them that the car smelled like an ashtray and they we had specified a non-smoking car. Their response? Oh all of our cars are non-smoking. Really? When they smelled the interior (and noted it on their form thank god), that gave me a can of smelly spray to cover it up and said I could take it or leave it. Well, I was on holiday with my family so I had no choice but to take it. My three kids spent the first half hour gagging. Very pleasant. This, without prior warning they make you prepay a 700 pound damage deposit, which they refunded about 10 days after I returned the vehicle (and 2 emails later). Total scam operation.

Awful. No Thrifty at the Arrivals in the airport, they were working thought Hertz. The £40 I paid for full cover when I booked through the airline they said didn't count as it wasn't through them. The Seat Leon I booked wasn't there and they could only offer a Renault Capture and I either had to pay an extra £120 or £800 deposit because I had a debit card not a credit card. I walked away at midnight and had to get a taxi across Gran Canaria and had no car for the week and lost the money as I'd paid online. After, No contact number/customer services to be found, couldn't call from Spain anyway. Had to take out a Spanish sim, make a WhatsApp account and then contact them on WhatsApp. Waited 2 days for the automated service to provide me a contact number only to get through to a girl in the Philippines who told me I could neither speak to the manager and refunds were not their policy! Under no circumstance deal with this company. Not dealing with them should be your policy, it is mine now. Booking ref: 741094062

A bunch of con men who will without doubt find some damage which you didn’t do and charge you for. Use a different rental service.

Go anywhere else!!!!........ This company is rasist and discriminate.If you must use this terrible company please please get the drivers to point out ALL the damage they have recored on there hand held tablets and make a video recording of the damage..... As i know for a fact if they miss damage from one customer they will charge / apply the damage to the next customer knowing they did not cause it...... This happens on big company contracts like mail companies and military sub contractors.Make sure the vehicle you hire is road worthy, i i know of a customer who was very recently given a car that needed new brake pads (inspected by kwikfit) but was told by the delivery driver there fine, its just a stone stuck in them.Dont worry about smoking in there cars tho as youJust need to say you stood by the car with the door /window open and ash /smoke blew in and ash.... In there own words if they dont see you smoke inthe car they cant prove it".And lastly... Check your hire vehicles sat nav (previous destinations) and previous mobile phones that were connected these should be empty... But driver's do not wipe them clear when turning cars around from one customer to another

Liars and time wasters. Got told to bring a faulty car back today, only to arrive and find out nothing has been arranged. Nice waste of nearly 2 hours trying to sort out Thrifty's issue

I had a hire car from the Cambridge branch arranged through a insurance company. The car its self was fine in good condition. The over all experience with thrifty was OK but that was mainly staff from other branches helping me with enquiries. The Cambridge branch we spoke to one lady who ruined the service we received. She Was always rude on the phone and unwilling to help everything was a chore for her, on one occasion she put the phone down on my wife, even when it came to arranging the collection of the car she gave an hours notice and when I said it was fortunate my wife would be home and they should give more than an hours notice she got very rude to me on the phone . My advice if you don't want to help people don't do a customer service job.

Had a car from LHR. Was due to be collected that evening from my final destination. 3 days later the car is still on my drive waiting collection. Every time I phone I'm told by lunch

Took over an hour to collect a hire car booked from CSL near Stansted, an hour of being told to phone this number and then redirected to the to the branch to get the code to a locker containing the car key who then redirected back to the Wycombe officer and so on, despite two staff members from the branch acknowledging I had a booking. I Offered my driving licence as proof of ID but was made to follow the broken and ineffective process.When I eventually got the code to the locker, their was no car key inside, qué more messing about and phone calls.Whilst Kerry the manager at Cambridge did genuinely seem to do her best to resolve the issue, it is clear that as a collective Thrifty are a joke and the main effort seemed to be to blame other offices and branches. Management need to proactivety check that whatever issues are highlighted are actually resolved.

The representative/lady at dollar/thrifty was rude, and it seemed like she didn’t want to do her job.I made a reservation with dollar (parent company) she didn’t accept my reservation, because the confirmation number started with a “k” instead of a number. Like what? Clearly she needs more training if she doesn’t know how to use her own booking system.At the end she Wasted 30 min of my time to just tell me she couldn’t honor my reservation. A Complete disaster and chaotic evolution.She was rude, unapologetic and told me to leave cause she couldn’t give me a car even though I had made a reservation.STAY AWAY FROM HERE!I’m giving 2 starts instead of 1 because the guys that clean the cars work hard and probably deserve it while the rude lady sits on her office and hates her life.Cheers!
