Smeaton Nursery Gardens

This is a very good nursery garden centre indeed....probably the best we have been to. Great selection, informative, knowledgeable and friendly staff, well-ordered and beautifully cared-for stock, and a nice cafe to boot! Add to that a beautiful estate open to walk through, and you have an excellent day out, and if you are looking for inspiration for your garden, you will definitely find it here.

Extremely well stocked with a great range of healthy, good value plants. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. Very popular tea room on site too.

Recommended to us we found it and were amazed at the sheer size of the place with plants everywhere. We had lunch in the cafe which was excellent. Friendly service, easy parking. We will be going again to have a more detailed look and to visit the cafe again..!

Really shocking customer service and after sales. Certainly wouldn’t recommend going to this garden centre. Bought a £65 pine and despite having gardened and successfully grown pines for over 50 years they simply wouldn’t accept any responsibility for the defective plant. Started telling them less than 4 weeks after buying it was a poor specimen and this is it now after 9 weeks. Very poor indeed….of course it’s the customers fault…but be warned the manager has stated categorically they are not responsible for any plants when they leave the nursery.

Excellent range in the garden centre with lots of interesting and high quality plants. Cafe is good with some nice food and drinks, but the service was a bit patchy.

The nursery seemed to have some nice looking plants though we actually went there for lunch at the cafe. Have been a few times before and found it to be very nice though we weren’t quite as impressed this time. The ploughman’s platter (I think it was called) was actually very nice and worth the £12 however my partner got the cream tea which came in at c. £13 by the time she paid a bit extra for cappuccino rather than ordinary coffee. Along with the coffee this consisted of a sandwich on thin and ordinary brown bread that didn’t look great and a fruit scone with small containers of jam and cream. The scone was nice enough but overall it didn’t seem much for the money. So, a bit of a mixed bag with one good dish and one not so good.

Nice well stocked garden centre. Cafe is in an old greenhouse area and is rustic. Breakfast menu is very limited and there is a gap from 11.00 to 11.30 when breakfast stops but you can't order lunch. Cakes only then I guess. Ifs worth a stop but pick your time.
