Fishpond Wood

Fishpond Woods is really relaxing and nice to clear your head whilst walking through the woods.I grew up in Fishponds Road so nice memorys and changes too.

Could do so much with these woods, took my daughter and dog here and there were motorbikes driving through the park at the bottom of woods was full of glass

Winter or summer, my friends and myself often used to play, run, and hide in this open and shaded area of grass and green. With paths running in all directions, one could easily get lost with oneself for hours if one wished to. It was this area that I first saw a squirrel. This was also the first leisure area in Cardiff to have a skateboard park.Later in life, as a teenager, I'd ride though the wooded area on my BMX. It was worth the five minute struggle peddling up hill for the 30 second ride down.The area has changed many times since my first experience in the 1970's.The fountain and paddling pool was removed years ago, but the play park was immediately improved and upgraded with rubber safety matting. Though an aged area, the many face lifts have helped to maintain it's youthful look.Walking through the area this Sunday afternoon was a real enjoyment and somewhat nostalgic experience with the familiar colours of brown and green, but also with seas of violet blues made by the swathes of bluebells.That's right kids... Stay indoors. Stay on your sofas. Stay in your bedrooms.Ignore the simple pleasures of flora and fauna.

This was our own patch of country in llanrumney. We were the first family to move into Glastonbury flats after being brought up in the Docks and Riverside so to see a big stretch if green like this was magical.And there was the pond with the island, and the woods. Real woods with trees and streams and mud and muck and slippery banks to slip and slide down and frog spawn and birds and little animals that hid under the leaf cover.....Paradise for inner city kids.And of course there was the fair that visited llanrumney Hall grounds every year and the fetes that dotted the fields with stalls and candy floss and goldfish in bags and hurdy gurdy music and flags and sack races and breathless and worn out children who resisted valiantly any attempt by their parents to drag them home to their tea and bath and bed.Days of my youth and I hope are the same for the modern denizens of the lanrumey estate

Nice walk needs more benches

I really enjoyed my walk here and its nice and tranquil and it's a place that's great to come to on a Sunday for fresh air and exercise.I am happy to come again soon.

If stolen and burned out cars are your thing then this place you'll love I'm surprised the trees have not been stolen yet.
