Douglas Huston

Tried to arrange viewings for two properties. Was told the wrong date for the first one and when we called about it, weren't even offered an apology (which is the bare minimum in public facing roles). The second viewing was a total disaster from the start. Before we even got in door we were typecasted as students and told not even though it was a non-HMO house we could not apply for it because we were not related (Last time i check, being related was not a requirement to rent a house).From start to finish, we were met with unprofessional and unco-ordinated staff.I have dealt with many real estate agency during the house hunt and this is by far the worst experience i have had.

We used Douglas Huston for our last three lettings and they have been extremely good at identifying the market rent and putting together a bespoke advertising campaign to get our properties let. Professional photography and floor plans have been a great benefit I have no hesitation in highly recommending and will be using again in the future. Many thanks to the whole team.

We rented a family property with Douglas Huston in Belfast for more than two years with the worst possible ending. Our landlord, who works in Douglas Huston and is related to the owner of the agency, decided to reoccupy the house due to a change in his personal circumstances. I could use many negative adjectives to describe the process of our eviction (merciless, rude, greedy), but overall this was a very traumatic event for a family of four a week before leaving for summer holidays. I would advise to avoid Douglas Huston at all costs.

They were awful. They sent us the wrong date for the first viewing and when we showed up and they didn’t we called and they basically told us no it was another day and the let had already been agreed. So we went to the second viewing with them and the estate agent was late and had a bad attitude and then stopped us at the door and interrogated us about being students (which we are not we are corporate professionals) then told us that you can’t rent a non-HMO residence without being related which is not true. Then she tried to see if we would look at any other properties to which we declined the offer. We then called the estate office to inquire about their non-HMO policy to which they informed us that is does not matter if you are not related. Overall completely unprofessional and showed discrimination against us for our age.

Great estate agents to work with. They sort problems out with no hassle and very quickly. Never once have we felt ripped off or like we couldn't approach the agents with questions. I would endeavor to deal with Douglas Huston for all my letting and buying needs in the future.

Currently still in tenancy with one of their properties but I'd say the rating isn't going to change.Winter months came about and the alley which leads to the door to my house was pitch black from around 5pm onwards, after emailing one of the staff they had an electrician come out the next day to remove the old broken lights and replace them with brand new LED ones that make the alley as bright as the sun.In addition whenever we were handling viewings, Donna one of the agents went out of her way to get keys for a house we were booked to view a few days later. The fact that this agency is willing to actually help its customers sets it apart from many of the estate agents I've dealt with during my time as a student and after.Would highly recommend them to any students who want a secure and respectful staff to take care of them.And if you're looking at some of these negative reviews, keep in mind that not many people go out of their way to leave good reviews but they'll spend hours writing a bad one; these guys will take care of you.

Douglas Houston has exceeded my standards. They were very prompt in solving problems while renting the property and after moving out. They were helpful throughout and gave great advice for first renters. I would recommend to anyone.

I was about to sign the lease with them only to be told that having a Scottish guarantor is not good enough, it is either a double deposit or NI guarantor. The problem was not in the fact that it was a double deposit, but the fact that I was given an ultimatum first - well, we can't proceed with the lease then. No other options were offered to me and that was the major problem, it was take it or leave it - and that's the attitude they had even before getting my business. - the agent could have said 'let me check if we can find a solution, but it blank - WELL, we can't proceed with the lease then. Only after I told them the next day that I am not willing to pay a double deposit and if the Scottish guarantor is not Good enough I won't proceed. It was not even an issue of deposit it was an issue of attitude. Also, the agent did not have a mask on when showing the flat.
