Battlesteads Dark Sky Observatory
A brilliant evening. Enjoyed by teens, adults and grandparents. Jimmy and Jacob were enthusiastic, informative and helpful in guiding us through the night sky. We were so lucky to get a really clear night, seeing the milky way, shooting stars, planets, galaxies and more! Well worth it. Thank you.

What a fantastic evening we had star gazing and looking at the moon through the telescope. Thank you so much to Roy, a lovely, friendly, funny and very knowledgable expert who made the two hours fly by and made learning a lot of fun. We were very lucky with the weather as there were regular gaps in the cloud so we could explore the sky with Roy’s help and guidance. We had a great time and would highly recommend.

It's a shame the weather did not play ball on the night I visited. However, not all was lost, I learnt more about astrology in one evening than anytime before. I learnt a few simple principles and can not wait to try these out when I get home.I can't help looking out for meteorites on my usual walks.. it was a fascinating evening, good facilities and it is attached to the hotel, or there is a car park for small campervans if you need to overnight it.

An amazing experience! Very insightful, our host was great fun and full of knowledge (it was a couple of weeks ago but I think his name was Roy?) We were a little worried about the amount of clouds that night but still managed to gaze and stars and use all of the equipment!Seeing the roof on the building retract was very cool. We even got to see Jupiter!! (Photo attached for proof haha)Will definitely be back!

This place is incredible. We payed £45 for two of us to join a moonwatch session, from the off this was amazing value as our guide Harry was so knowledgeable. We started off with a chat introducing us to telescopes and the various facts about them, then we were taken to the front of the building to see the roof being removed, we had a fantastically clear night and we saw all kinds of things through the telescope, andromeda galaxy, Pleiades, the moon among others. We were able to capture some photos through the lens but also Harry had a gizmo which you can put your phone into to steady it, he was so patient with us all and gave us all the time we needed to grab the best pictures. There was a cache of binoculars to have a good look about with too.We are so lucky to have been in Harry’s group, he was enthusiastic and entertaining and even if you felt you were asking a stupid question he would validate it with an honest answer. There is a hot beverage machine to use, and the main building has heating incase you’re out on a nippy autum/winter evening.5+ stars for this, we would love to come back again - thanks Harry.

A super evening learning about the solar system, galaxy, constellations, and equipment used to see these. Chris, who lead us through the session was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He had some meteorites and handed them to the group to touch them!During the session, he retracted the roof, so that we can see the stars. It was a cloudy night, but we managed to see a glimpse of them with the naked eye. The telescope was used to see some of the constellations. It was a very enjoyable evening and plenty of curious questions were asked! It is a fantastic area to see the constellations and it has now sparked my interest in exploring this further!I didn’t take much photos as we needed to avoid white lights, so our eyes could see the stars in darkness!

Despite the 0% visibility on our trip we had such an amazing time! Our host was extremely enthusiastic about the stars which really made the trip!Plenty to do and discover even if your unable to actually see anything which was great! We'll return and hopefully we'll have a clearer night!
