Lakes Aquarium
Really interesting place, I absolutely loved the ants and reptiles! Really stood out from other aquariums. As always with these places it doesn't take that long to go around. But I lover that it connects to the steam station and has a beautiful dock.

Kids enjoyed running around and looking at the varied collection of animals. The worker ants section was a highlight. It's well priced really £20 for a family of 4 ticket (buy the day before online to get tickets cheaper) so was great for a wet morning. Shame the train next door was closed for the season or that would have been a good pairing.

Visited while on holiday. Admitted the aquarium isn't large bur for the admission price it's reasonable. Plenty to look at, learn about and the otter talk and feed was brilliant. We spent about an hour and half in it as our autistic son loves aquariums. Highly recommend.

Very fun. Particularly enjoyed the ambient music. The wall paintings also excellent. Gift shop contains some really excellent oddities. Immersive fish experience.

The lakeside aquarium is a small aquarium. It probably takes around 30-40 mins to visit. So it’s perfect an escape on a wet day. Small kids will love it. If you book the day before it’s much cheaper. Try to avoid peak times if you want to take your time . (11-2pm). Parking is £2.50 too but don’t forget to take change.

Lakes Aquarium
Nice aquarium. All the tanks/habitats are nicely done. It's not the biggest aquarium but is very family friendly and reasonablely priced with a good discount if you purchase your ticket online in advance. My three children really enjoyed their time here. All the staff are very friendly, approachable and helpful.

Small aquarium on Lake Windermere. I'd say it would take the average family 30 mins to tour round it. I really liked the detail in the decor of the place. There was a discounted rate when we visited, as there was building work been carried out. Some of the animals had been rehomed elsewhere temporarily. The ant colony was fascinating. We all really enjoyed going through the tunnel under the marine life.

Lakes Aquarium
Very enjoyable. Varied exhibits. Educational. Lovely setting by lake and ample parking. Get a days parking and you could do aquarium, train and cruise.

Visited here about 18 years ago, and it's definitely not as good now.To begin with, the lady on the front desk was unenthusiastic and not very welcoming. To be fair, the staff in the gift shop were very friendly, although the shop itself was filled with plastic novelty rubbish. As a rule, I don't support zoos or aquariums unless it's about conservation, but made the trip here out of curiosity and to see how it had changed over the years and to see what efforts were made to look after the creatures in their care. In fact, it wasn't worth the entry fee and felt neglected and slightly run down in places. The aquarium and two accompanying cafes seem to be run by the same company, as they swapped staff during our time there, so it's clear that this is a commercial enterprise rather than for conservation of species. In many cases, fish were crammed into tiny tanks, and even the tank with an underwater walkway was woefully small for the larger specimens swimming around. There were also two otters in a small enclosure - otters in the wild have a territory of about 21 miles. We also noticed that the biggest fish tank was contaminated with plastic trash. All in all, I'd rather see the fish swimming free.
