Great place to get an insight into the industrial heritage of the area and England’s engineering past. Wasn’t expecting a guide tour or to see so many things working, from water wheels to steam engines. Well worth the admission price. From the website “Top Forge is a Water Powered Heavy Iron Forge whose history can be traced back to at least 1640. The site has been used for bloomeries and fineries but it is best known for the Wrought Iron Railway Axles that were hammer-welded between 1840 and the closing of the Forge around 1910.”

A brilliant place to visit and a bargain. Lots to see from historic buildings, machinery, scenary and lots of very helpful and informative volunteers. We went with our 18month old who was able to toddle around. Theres also a ride on train run by the model engineers. You can pay by online payment or cash. A brilliant day or just a couple of hours.

A real hidden gem, can't recommend this place highly enough, run by volunteers who couldn't be more friendly and helpful if they tried, only downside it's only open on a Sunday.

What a fantastic place this is. We visited last weekend with our 2 year old son and there was something for everyone. Can clearly see a lot of work has gone into restoring each and every part; from the machinery through to the buildings as well as the gardens. Really impressed to find out that the machines are in full working order - we managed to see quite a few in action and looking forward to seeing more at their annual event in September where we'll be sure to be back.My son particularly enjoyed the ride on the miniature railway, as did we! A great setting run by volunteers. Would definitely recommend a visit.

A great find! We went on a Sunday morning and expected it to be busy as the weather was lovely but we almost had the place to ourselves! We had a guided tour and then went on the miniature railway which the children loved. The website says the train doesn't start running until 2pm but this is an error - it usually starts around 12pm and the driver let us stay on for 4 loops! The train is by donation and was longer than most we have been on before.Lots of places to sit and have a picnic and grass for children to play on and nice clean toilets. Would highly recommend. We were there for around 2 hours with children aged between 1-5.

Great hidden gem. A working industrial museum run by enthusiasts. Ride on miniature trains and traction engines. Cafe for drinks and snacks. Plenty of outdoor space for families. Watch out for the open days

We visited on Sunday 2nd July with friends from other parts of the country. What a superb place run by enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, I only live half an hour away and had no idea this place was here and how fascinating it is. We were guided by Gordon, he explained everything in an interesting way and is obviously very proud of all that has been achieved through the hard work of the volunteers. The site is kept to a very high standard, an absolute gem. If you’re looking for a couple of hours of local history you can’t miss this! We will be returning and bringing others along x

I’m not to big on museums but this is definitely one of the coolest I ever saw. They repaired a lot of old machinery which you can see running and we received a great tour as well.

A gem this place. A great place to see some of our industrial heritage. A fantastic selection of steam engines, machines, workshops and tools. Also a narrow gage mini ride on railway. Very reasonably priced £3.00 per adult £2.00 per child. There is a nature trail for the kids to follow too. A good place for schools to visit too. All run by busy volunteers.
