Opal Court - iQ Student Accommodation Leicester

It was one of the best accommodations that I’ve lived in. Perfect for first year’s as it provides chances for first years to get to know one another. The CSA’s, especially one called Ahmed, are welcoming and attentive to your needs. The evening staff also are good at keeping the accommodation safe for the residents. Would highly recommend the accommodation to anyone.

Pros: - En suite decent size,- very close to the university 10 minute by walk,- 15 minutes walk into city centre- the reception will keep ur parcel until you pick it up which is fantastic- lovely staff that will always be there to help you no matter what.- 24hrs security, and the security people are one of the nicest people I have ever metMy experience overall has been really goodCons: - too expensive- the common room game room wasn’t open majority of the year because of construction- You need to clean your own flat- the buildings look old

I spent my first year here while I was at uni.My experiences are quite bad: the rooms are really small with incredibly small windows so there is barely any daylight;the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything that your neighbour is saying/doing;the staff is very unfriendly and unhelpful except for 1 receptionist who was amazing;the bathroom ceiling had a huge yellow water stain and the sink had a massive crack;the room is really pricey and you have to pay an awful lot for the laundry.The only good thing about it is the location which is excellent. This is the closest student accommodation to the university (it's a 3 minute walk).

Avoid this accommodation as best as u can. They literally did a fire alarm test at 4am. Accommodation can also get extremely noisy especially around night

The front desk is very friendly, but if you can't stand the noise, don't choose this place. There are many people who often make noises at two or three in the middle of the night, and the administrator doesn't care. The sound insulation of the house is very poor! Moreover, the lights in the room are very dim, and the corridor often smells of curry!

I stayed for an year during my Master's degree. It is supremely expensive.Fire alarms are very disruptive. We were informed that fire drill would be on Mondays yet the fire alarm would begin ringing randomly. And sometimes even at 4 or 5 am.The boiler is very small. If one or two people would bath, it would be out of warm water.We are informed that it's the uni accommodation but no events at opal. All the uni resident events are held at freeman's.Also there was electricity cut-off twice or thrice and exceeded the informed maintenance times.The only good part was the staff. They were very friendly and supportive and two stars just for 'em.Overall advice would be to do some research and go for private student accommodation (non uni of Leicester). There are several accommodation at cheaper rates providing same amenities.

My experience at Opal Court was amazing the customer advisors staff and security are brilliant, everyone is really friendly, it’s really close to the university 5 minute walk, it’s a brilliant place for first years to get used to the city

The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because of the nice and professional staff.The building has so many issues- Annoying alarm that goes off every Wednesday, sometimes for minutes.- Disruptive construction work- Hot water always going off- Unreliable internet (though not always)- Overpriced

Would not recommend for the price charged, you can find cleaner, and more private, shared accomodation elsewhere in Leicester for a better price. Regularly staff would walk through our flat and knock on our doors, workmen were in our hallways, tours would show up unannounced, and we were told our flat wasn't private, just our rooms were, despite the lock to our shared flat. It was odd. Public spaces often smelled and were dirty. Elevator broke down and left me stranded while moving in... Laundry room was dirty. When we asked for something to be fixed, it would only be fixed if it was urgent. Voices echoed badly and were amplified from the common courtyard to every room with a courtyard window, which was problematic at night and early in the morning, even on the 11th floor.

Stayed here for my first year, can say I recommend. It is located 5-10 minutes walk from the university, 15-20 minutes walk from town centre, good security, helpful staff and has a nice common/social room. Only negatives are is that you have to pay separate for washing and drying (£5) and there is nothing close apart from subway.
